Does anyone know the exact rule broken? It's my understanding, and I may be wrong, but the kick itself wad legal. It was the intent that was questioned and later on justified as a legal, hence no disqualification.

A safety rule, I think. The kick was illegal by rules of the event, much like a low blow is illegal. You don't guard against it.

The kick was perfectly legal and the ko stands .The bone of contention was that the competition was designated as Light Contact, so was the kick one using excessive force?
The Judges decided there was no intent to injure Vitali and the result was recorded as a KO for Reid.

We have them saying BS like Flynn was coming on,and may have outlasted Johnson.
That Battling Jim was in front at the end of his10 rounder with Johnson and that the champion was near to being ko'd.
That Johnson was the bigger man against McVey.
McVey was 25lbs heavier 1 st fight.
16lbs 2nd fight.
17lbs 3rd fight.
That the Johnson v Burns fight was stopped because Johnson's seconds crawled under the ring and shouted for the referee to stop the fight LOL. Johnson won every round what would be their motive for this?
That Johnson never weighed less than185lbs for a fight,although he fought and won the Texas middleweight title at the age of 19!

Even though I was there, for years people told me this didn't happen, I've even been insulted on boxing forums in the past for saying it happened. It was at the WAKO European Championships in Varna, Bulgaria, 1992. It was the final, light continuous kickboxing. Pele Reid was awarded the win to pick up the European Title. I was beside the camera, and you can hear me shouting. Oh, that year I picked up Bronze too, in the -91kg. When Vitali won the Heavyweight World Kickboxing Title it was in Kiev and again I was there. He fought my friend Barrington Patterson in the final, and we had been told that the final would be Sunday night. There we were watching the Saturday night finals and suddenly Barrington's name was called - he didn't even have any kit! Us fighters who had competed that day lent Barrington our kit, he had no warm up, and still nearly won. In my opinion Vitali was very well 'protected' in his kickboxing days.
