    Petty Officer Mathew Curran.Heavyweight

P.O Curran known as "Nutty" was an Irish heavyweight boxer 43-35-3 , who would tackle anyone foolish enough to get in the ring with him.
He was a compulsive fouler and was dsq'd13 times!
When not being slung out alone he sometimes managed to get his opponent tossed out with him, and on a couple of occasions so enraged his opponents by his dirty tactics, they responded in kind and got slung out before he did!

He won the Irish heavyweight title koing title challenger Jem Roche in6 rds.
Ko'd Iron Hague for a version of the British title in15rds.
Beat Gunner Moir by dsq in2 rds.
Kod Moir in 1 rd for the British Title
    Was dsq,against Boer Rodel
    Was stopped by
    Colin Bell
    Fred Fulton
    Sam Langford
    Billy Wells
Beat title challenger ***ey Smith by ko in3 rds .Was slung out with Smith in another bout.
Curran was a real nut case, hence his nick name NUTTY.

Good post Ivich. Love the history threads; my preference to the juvenile bickering (although even those can become pretty loaded with good information as the belligerents posture to drive home their points). In addition to P.O Curran, a very interesting character in the British title lineage, Iron Hague, Gunner Moir, George "Boer" Rodel, Colin Bell, Fred Fulton, Sam Langford, Bombardier Billy Wells & ***ey Smith, all top Heavyweights of the day you've mentioned, each have a fascinating story of their own. Fulton, huge for his time, was ranked by a panel of Ring Magazine historians in 2003 as one of the 100 hardest P4P punches of all-time. Don't be mislead by his KO loss to Dempsey. Fulton was very real.
Bombardier Billy Wells was one of the most celebrated English boxers of the 20th century. He was beloved for his bravery in the military and the ring, and his less than granite chin only occasionally got in his way. He earned additional fame in films, as the "gong man" featured at the start of all Arthur Rankin films, chosen for his Perfect Physique". Small tidbits.
              Well done.
