  • The Worst Referee In Boxing today.

Refereeing , although supposed to be objective, in my opinion is VERY subjective. So I was thinking about the standards of refs. Who the wrrst ref is. I nominate Laurence Cole. His negligence in the Lomachenko-Salido fight alone should have had him hauled out of the ring by a large pair of tongs, and dumped in a cesspit.
Was it deliberate, or his usual level.???

    - - Laurence Cole of Texas though he's mostly been neutered out of big fights after his Daddy retired from the Texas Poohbah position that regulates boxing among other sports.

There are several Brits on that level though, so he's disputed #1.

Geez, must be dozens of Mexican, Argentinian, and soon to be Cuban refs stinking up boxing.

No doubt there have been some bad ones, even some crooked ones, but it's a tough gig, so many things can go side ways with no real precedents to fall back on.

Laurence Cole might be the all-time worst.

A testament to the nepotism of his daddy.

I have another candidate named Paul Sita, the referee of the Freddie Norwood -Gainer fight. It got completely out of any control, It became a street fight and the ref made up his own rules, counting for fighters down for legitimate low blows, and in the end, holding Norwood whilst Gainer drilled him around his tender spots. The he counted to 25 with Norwood writhing and protesting in agony, and gave the fight to Gainer.

Along with the Max Baer-Carnera fight one of the dirtiest I've seen. And the first one in which the ref helped the winning fighter so openly.

I exclude all Hopkins fights although they were always "dirty" they were skilled and not completely open like those I've mentioned.

Besides, he was a Hollywood class "actor"

I Lost track a long time ago, but I hate to see other pathetic refs left out for Cole. He either runs or used to, an insurance agency that insures boxers. No conflict of interest there. Move along, please.

                - - For soon to be disbarred Billy Slick, he couldn't just come out and say what jizz is lest he compromise his defense already in tatters.

Then there was that ref who was in the Augustus-burton fight, who took a point or something when Emmanuel spun out of a clinch in his usual odd0ball manner. Perfectly legal but the "ref".......Oy Veh. Not that he was bad all thr way through, he wasn't , it was just that one incident.

Teddy Atlas happened to be there, doing something, maybe commentating (?) and he gave that ref double-hell after the fight. I'm not sure but I have a faint recollection that Teddy hauled out a little Rules of Boxing book and was pointing out something to him.. I could be wrong here. The cameras zoomed in on it and you could hear Atlas telling the poor guy "you don't know anything about the rules of boxing" -or something like. You could feel sorry for the guy stooping over there with Teddy spraying him .....
