    Anomalies In Ring Size

Sure, the standard is 20 feet. But I have seen quite a few exceptions to this.

Let us make a list of these anomalies in ring size. 16 to 22 feet is the range of ring sizes I have seen. I will start out with an easy one everyone probably already knows.

Leonard/Hagler 22 feet. Where is ring size information available?

    Help me out.

MQB says 24 square feet ("or as near that size as practicable"). I wonder when 20 became the standard.

I can't help with any info, sorry.

I do wonder if Dempsey in '26 and Tunney in '27, both being champions, chose different size rings for their goes? I'm sure Dempsey wanted a smaller ring.

        1 Hagler/ Leonard----22 feet
        2 Marciano/****ell----16 feet

Keep the list going if you have information.

I may have seen a major fight in a ring smaller than fifteen feet.

Does anyone know of a 24 foot ring ever being used?

Watched the Marciano - Walcott I replay. The announcer (1952) trice repeated that this was the very same ring Tunney defeated Dempsey in, in 1926.

I watched the opening right down to the anthem, but no mention of the actual ring size.

I didn't keep watching, figured best shot I had at hearing actual ring size was then.

I wonder if the announcer just meant same venue but called it same 'ring.' - The actual ring would have been 26 years old by that point.

I heard tell once that Dempsey forced Tunney into a very small ring in 1926. But the speaker was a Dempsey hater and prone to BS. So?

Places like Kezar stadium in San Francisco (where I believe Marciano fought ****ell) probably keep a ring stored somewhere down in their vast tunnels that gets used very rarely. But I imagine Madison Square Garden rings have been changed more than once through the years. Kezar Stadium? Why change the ring? We still have the one from Marciano/****ell.

Ring for the Dubois-Bryan fight was crazy small.
