There's probably as much chance that Fitz was a blacksmith as Lincoln having actually split a rail.

I thought I read somewhere that he cracked his ribs, but I could be remembering wrong.

He seems to have wrapped his hands with the infamous electrical tape for that fight too.

        - - Fitz shop in New Zealand is supposed to be a landmark.

When Abe freed himself age 21 as a legal adult, he embarked into a plethora of entry level labor professions as did I, and in fact was splitting rails when he first borrowed a law book from a local lawyer before reading his entire collection.

I don't believe either - LOL - sorry - history is plagued with tourist traps and Sanburg's Lincoln was apocryphal.

          Just my cynical nature. Sorry.

            - - Never heard or read Sanburg.

            - - Got several time/event specific bios on Abe whom I had been critical in his role of starting the Civil War, and they are quite impressive as I see the events he had nothing in creating washing over him as he labors to do the "right" thing.

The Fitz link is filled with direct links/quotes to his blacksmithing. I can even recall Joe Gans in the Fitz training camp wielding a blacksmith hammer making horse shoes or carriage straps, ect.

Should I burn all my bios and call a halt to history?

I left out the "d" and you break my balls over Carl Sandburg? Really?

Great PR with ****ing the smithereens around probably excited the (paying to watch them train) crowds. Sound like a fun day for everyone, good showman Fitz was. Wife did a great job of selling him as well.

Yes, burn all your biographies and start the phuck over. Biographies are crap history. You're either paying for propaganda or hate mongering, seldom good history.

Fitz had bad hands when he fought Jeffries ,and they gave out on him during the fight.

                  - - Never read anything but Sandburg poetry and not much of that.

Burn your pop's WW2 legacy first and show us how serious you are. My library will remain filled with all the good, bad, and ugly the literary world can create.
