I think Ruiz carries a lot of the blame, for how we perceive today's HW boxing: "Look, a ridiculously overweight lardass won a title strap - just goes to prove, how far boxing has fallen". A lot of people probably feel this way - but is the HW scene really at an all-time low right now?

There have always been unathletic, awkward types. Remenber fat Brian Nielsen not long ago? And how about that hog-fat, terrible South African, Mike Schutte... or the Buster Matthis who challenged Joe Frazier? Tony Galento was not just fat, but very awkward as well. As were another two of Louis' title opponents, Abe Simon and Buddy Baer. And I don't think, I need remind anyone of the roly-poly Willie Meehan!

These types have probably always been around - but we haven't always been able to watch them (and be grossed out!) in living colour, like we can today!

But its ironic... Ruiz was just fine lol! He threw punches... As a matter of fact, when Ruiz fought a suppusedly Washed up Arreolla, Together they set a record of some sort for punches thrown... Lol. I have no problem with looks per se its performance. And some guys look heavy and unable to perform to their best,

My problem is with this idea where guys don't come in ready to throw punches for 12 rounds... AND that was the reason why a lot of the traditional guys weighed in on the light side compared to today. I don't care how a fighter looks... Tony Galento could fight for 15 rounds.

If boxing does not evolve, does that mean it does not devolve either.

              - - You carry a sad, stereotypical prejudice against the overweight. Mathis was much more "athletic" than Joe who proved his athletic disabilities in the 70s Superstars cross competition. But Joe was a fighter of formidable qualities not needing athleticism to fight.

El Lardo Andy wouldn't have even been fighting AJ but for the plethora of ranked heavies turning down record purses to fight him starting with the main culprit, Big Baby Miller, he of the superobesity strain making false PED use claims against AJ before being popped several x for a smorgasbord of notorius PEDS resulting in Whyte, Fury, Wilder, Kownacki, Ortiz, ect, turning down record purses as the replacement opponent for the unified title fight opportunity to challenge AJ.

Fat Andy should be applauded, not derided.

Had they called moi, I'd say book me on the next flight to NYC with a hotel to stay in and I'll fight AJ for half of what Eddie was offering those clowns.

Fat Andy made it point to contact Eddie that save the promotion and made a bit of storied boxing history to boot. Biggest prob with boxing fans is a lack of respect for boxing and the struggles boxing has always had.
