  • Boxing Fiction

Boxing fiction is hard to come by. Like we talked about before, Jack London did it at least once with A Piece Of Steak. Did anyone even read that? Let me know if you did.

I know of a couple of pretty good movies, but written stories seem to be rare. Fat City was awfully good, and probably a book before a movie. I don't know if there is a lot of pulp garbage written about boxing or not. Good fictional boxing stories are hard to locate.

Whaddya got? Especially the good stuff. We will even take YOUR stuff! Maybe you wrote a boxing story once upon a time.

If you publish right here we will find someone that promises to match you with their own tale. Don't be shy. Step up!

Anything Queenie writes = boxing fiction, science fiction and pulp fiction. None of it is true. Certain aspects may be taken from true events, but it is all purely fiction.

And it is all in heavy dialect a Cajun would commit suicide over.

            - - Never seek out boxing fiction, but age 8 my aunt gave me my 5 yrs older cousin's kid books that I devoured.

One had a story about a kid being bullied in school by the class thug who eventually runs afoul of authorities to be enrolled in a PAL Recreation program where the bully becomes a championship swimmer.

Meanwhile the kid takes up a boxing program to defend himself from bullies to become a championship boxer, but in a chance encounter on the street the still bigger Bully reverts and means to do in our erstwhile kid, coming in with expected "swimming motion" punches, but wait! Our kid hero has stolen a key gemstone out of his trainer's repertoire, the left hook that the kid was never allowed to use in a bout, but here, natch, he timely unveils his left hook for the expected KO of Mr. Bully.

I was wholly confused by that since left and/or right hooks were a regular part of my arsenal in the working class neighborhood I grew up in with nobody around to teach me. Kinda backed me off fiction in general, especially since fiction was popular with English teachers always picking out their favs that we were forced to read for testing. Going off to college got me into science fiction, infinitely better than fiction in my book.

Yes, I can imagine your big dust broom gliding ceaselessly and silently across the floor of the college library.

They would not allow me to watch Big Tall Wish for free, so I watched a long analysis of it replete with Sterling's ending monologue and a variety of scenes.
