Some of the reasons we need a long historical stretch to look at these elements of a fighter's performance, is history tends to give us comparative values for the time and for time immemorial. Here is an example of how it applies in this case with Loma: One of the nice books I read in boxing (the name escapes me) was written by an english Trainer in the mid 1800's. I often bring this book up because what suprised me was how many things this guy said, were things STILL debated today!

Among those things said by the author was a recrimination... an admonishment of the highest order, to get amateur training methods out of professional proze fighting. His point was that American fighters were able to think outside the box, use the power hand more frequently, hit harder, etc... One example of his was Kid McCoy who he claimed, could better the typical dentist in getting rid of a bad tooth with his corkscrew punch lol. But the coach was hyping American talent for the same reason today fighters go to trainers like Sugar Hill...

I agree with some who have said Loma, and I would say many others, are a product of the style characterized as "amateur" boxing. This creates certain habits that hold back greatness imo.

I think that as boxing takes shape there will be a way to look at the situation with fighters who were storied amatuer competitors and went pro. There has to be because there are even different amateur systems! The Cubans imo being one of the more succesful for the pro ranks imo.

Lomachenko is still a great fighter. And he will be undisputed lightweight champion. Mark my words. He is truly special as a boxer, and I’m not someone given to over praise anyone.
