  • Whatever happened to Gerald Nobles?

The Philly heavyweight retired with a 26-1 record with 21 KOs. His best win was probably against my guy Bruce Seldon and he lost a controversial DQ loss to Valuev. Surprised the 5'11" Nobles never got another big shot and he only fought two more times before retiring.

His profile pic on Boxrec looks like he just took a beating. Wonder if it was from the Valuev fight; wonder if he fouled out to avoid a beating. It was a match of undefeated and had he won maybe it would have launched him to a real title shot.

      - - Wif that dazzling display of wriggling jiggles to rival the most well equipped pole dancer, maybe became a Philly **** star.

Just watched the Valuev fight on YouTube. That should have been changed to a NC. Appalling refereeing and he was clearly paid off. Nobles should have had no points deducted at all. I never watched this fight live as I hated watching Valuev as he had no skill, which showed in the fights in lost, size didn't come into it - Haye 6 ft 3, Chaguev 6 ft, this fight was a gift win, I think there were a couple more too, and I read his fight with 75 year old Evan Fields could have went either way as well. Nash out.

Thanks for that. Sounds like a combination of poor self discipline, some injuries and very bad management were the cause for alot of his career stalling. I remembered him from his Cedric Kushner days but couldn't really remember his fights other than the Seldon fight (I was a big Seldon fan at the time) and that he had some heavy hands. Went back and watched the Valuev and Seldon fights. Good stuff.

I was in the same boat when it came to Valuev. I never really liked the giant Russian, nor did I like the Quiet Man John Ruiz. I always found both of them incredibly boring and frustrating to watch. I saw a handful of Valuev's fights at the time and his size was his only real attribute. For all that mass, he didn't have all that heavy of hands and he would just pump a jab out for the most part.
He also had the promotional push behind him so his career was guided very strategically and when needed some questionable officiating and judging were always there to benefit him.

                    - - U proven predisposed to reading Dumb things and making Dumb conclusions.

Valuev had good jab, straight right, left hook and didn't need a ref to pry off a holding attempt when he could bounce the miscreant off the ropes onto the canvas at the other side of the ring. Turned pro as an internationally traveled freak show going in the local heroes dens of iniquity to blast them out.

He was given a style makeover, ie civilized for German civilians so the Ruiz's and Vander's could hang off him without fear of being bounced off the ropes onto the canvas. Chagaev and Haye had to be hospitalized for rope burns on their backs they ran so much.
