The WBC had at one point ordered Morales and Marquez to fight. If memory services me right, Morales and Top Rank had no interest in the fight. They felt Marquez was a nobody.
A real shame too. That would have been a great fight.

      - -Barrera was more accomplished with subsequent ring miles on him.

And Marquez was a nobody then. He didn't get into the mix until Manny designated him as one of the 3 amigos, and even then could only fight Barrera once long after his Morales trilogy and Marquez almost KOed in that fight.

When Morales made a comeback at 140 Marquez ducked repeated challenges, so Manny wasn't the only one he ducked. He seemed adverse to big fights in their best moment. Hence his animosity toward Canelo whereas JCC Sr loves Canelo because Sr is secure in his Mexican status unlike Marquez.

Too bad they couldn't fight anyway, like when Lewis fought Michael Grant instead of some crappy mandatory fight nobody wanted to see.

Barrera did not come close to a KO. He scored a knockdown and then punched Marquez was he was clearly down. All of this happened at the end of the round, so not sure how he was close to being KO'd.

Morales was done when he made the 140 comeback. Now he needed Marquez, who didn't need him.

            - -Au contraire mon ami, Marquez dropped hard in the 7th and couldn't defend himself. Barrera waited 2-3 sec with no interference by Nady and no movement by Marquez so cuffed him a kiddy slap that Woke Nady who suddenly remembered where he was. Promptly issued Barrera a point deduction without crediting the KD where he gave Marquez extra recovery time during this Punch and Judy show.

So, with 5 rds to go where Barrera forced to forfeit his 10-8 rd to Marquez who was additionally gifted with extra recovery time during the fiasco, well, no need for me to go off any further on the Moe, Larry, Curly officiating of the typical boxing match. Nady not so long after was absent a long while, perhaps with health problems and in lower level fights upon his return.

I’m going to lock this thread. I’m getting sick of being notified about this argument. Continue it in PMs if you must.
