You know your guy Marciano got busted with a buddy in England for mugging a gay guy. He had the guy's wallet hidden under his pillow when the MPs searched him. Ended up in the bridge and missed operation Market-Garden (Liberation of Holland). May have saved his life ironically. Got a general discharge and then had it pardoned and switched to an Honorable Discharge.

You're correct regarding the 'gay' issue - it was Rocky's defense that he was defending himself from an unwanted advance when he beat on the guy - but it was only Rocky's claim that makes the guy gay.

What can I say I read it was under his pillow not the friend's whatever that is worth.

In regards of OMG I put that together myself when I saw the dates of his arrest and imprisonment. Market-Garden was a big push everyone on the European theater would have played some roll in the operation. Unless of course you were in Italy, which he wasn't.

But most of the whole story is cloudy becuse Rocky kept changing the story when he got back.

But like most boxing history it may be a story that got legs under it and over exaggerated.

And a big yes that it came out of an unauthorized biography and we should look at with a skeptical attitude.

No thsnks for mentioning thst . . . I was 10 years old (1965) and unaware . . . I just read two quick articles on it . . . Kearns gave the interview in 1963 and SI published the article in 1964 after Kearns died. Dempsey sued in '65 and it was settled out of court and SI made a formal apology. No mention of how much $ (I wonder if Dempsey even tried to get $, maybe the formal retraction was all he really wanted.)

The American Hertiage magazine article was entitled "One Last Dirty Trick." . . . LOL . . . Dempsey was quoted as saying "Kearns figured out how to give me one last swift kick in the butt [even after he was dead.]"

Dempsey's trainer Jimmy DeForest is on record saying he wrapped Jack's hands with electrical tape so maybe that's what DocKearns was talking about.
