Mate Parlov uses a quick, apparently innocuous jab to knock Miguel Cuello out cold:

To me that shot was as illegal as the Jones-Hill punch.

I can't see any illegality, TBH.

In 1919 Willard and Dempsey agreed that rabbit punches were OK so long as the opponent is standing in front of you ( it was considered the [tall] Pottowannie Giant's favorite punch ) but both agreed that kidney punches were a cheap shot and agreed to call the punch foul.

The punch lands on what constitutes the 'back' and will incapacitate a fighter just long enough for a ten count - sometimes allowing an inferior fighter to steal a fight he is losing with one cheap shot.

What constitutes a foul punch has always been subjective; I personally think it is a cheap shot; you are reaching around an opponent's proper guard to hit him in the back; watch Chavez Sr. he delivers a clean liver shot through his opponent's guard, the punch above is a cheap 'reach around' shot.'

Like a rabbit punch, the punch is dangerous and can do serious damage to the organ; because it is delivered to the 'back' the punch offends the nature of the martial art called boxing; a fighter should strike his opponent face to face not try to reach around his guard to hit hin in the back.

"Me, Dempsey and Willard see a cheap shot," TBH.

I see it more like a liver shot. But I see what you mean.

One of Ricardo Lopez’s best knockouts. The way this guy looks so bewildered after knocked down is quite something. He looks like he forgot where he was for a second.

Tyson’s KO of Biggs. Biggs was a hot prospect, a skilled Olympic gold medalist who defeated Lennox Lewis in the Olympics. Considerably larger than Tyson at 6’5”.

                  - -Pep, kidneys are behind the short rib and liver into the transition zone to the back. That was a straight up 101 shot to the kidney/short rib.

Jones shot to Hill straight up(audible crack) to the short rib.

                  ???
