After 48 fights and losing 35 pounds of muscle from the year before. Rest of his career he was fine. YDKSAB.

      - -Roy's trainer was talking retirement going into the Ruiz fight. Had he retired then, no doubt he'd be the consensus #1 though I'd have rated him a bit lower.

35 lb of muscle? What grade U in? Maybe get the older boys to do the grade school math. Roy was 193 at the weighin. His normal fight weight was at 185+lbs ever since he moved to LH.

I don't understand the "35 pounds of muscle."

185 is too low he is at 195 plus most of that time.

Jones loses to Hopkins at 175 and 13 months later appears at just under or 200 for his last 14 fights, except for Glazewiski where he cuts down to 183 (CW) for one fight. (A good win, the only one of the 14.)

He loses his first HW bid by KO (Levedeb) then defeats seven second and third teir HW fighters, losing again by KO against his next real challenge (Macarinelli). Finshes out with three more meaningless fights.

In considering his legacy why would one even address his HW tenure?

Only Glazewiski looks to be a decent win (at CW) and he didn't turn out to be much.

I don't get the 35 pound point being made; I don't think one should include his HW run if one wants to call him the GOAT, it's a weak showing.

          - -I'm just using what Roy was saying in the middle of his pomp. Afterwards he was plump, not finely tuned just racking up paydays as the The Formerly Great Roy.

Yeah tough to evaluate on that account. Putting it into logical terms: As great as Roy was, IF one believes he was the GOAT at any weight, one has to believe that he was so good, that no fighter in that weight class would ever catch him. This is because if any fighter did tap that chin, one has to wonder if Roy would hold up.

I count myself fortunate to have been a boxing fan at a time when Roy was coming up through the weight classes. One of the most exciting fighters to ever step into the ring.
