Say Spinks comes in at 200 pounds and Patterson comes in at the 190 lbs he was when he avenged his loss to Johansson. Who would you give the fight to?

What a great match up! Both a bit underrated due to results against HoF heavyweight champs but both really top fighters in their own rigtts. I think Spinks would be a good bet in a really good bout, probably win on points using his jabs and would be able to cope with the handspeed of Floyd. Might be a knockdown or two for either man, could be a slow burn classic.uncle ben likes this.

Good one unk!
Your dealing straight up two master boxers. Floyd slight advantage hand speed, what can I give spinks? Not looks... This is such a toss up... Im going to say maybe the Jinx, hes just such a good light heavy, and a really good ATG light heavy fighting an excellent but not ATG heavyweight, with no real advantages... I mean sometimes weight does not tell us the whole story, but here, I do think these guys are genuinely the same size. Patterson was a small heavyweight and I don't care what he weighed!! He was just built small and legit, Mike S is a similar size...
So my reasoning goes something like this: If we took Foster, and put him in against, Johnson... One of our resident size queens would pipe up "But but... Johnson was smaller than Foster! so so so... yada yada yada... But I call BS. Johnson may have been lighter but was built like a smaller Liston. He was a bigger man than Foster, who was more rangy.
On the other hand, if we put Chris Byrd against oh lets say... Tunney, they are legit the same size and ultimately we are dealing with the fact Byrd chose to fight heavy, but is a small heavy and therefore has no size advantage over what amounts to perhaps the greatest light heavy... Making it easy to pick Tunney. Thats how I feel about this match up: Patterson was an excellent fighter, fighting one of the best light heavies... no size advantage for Patterson here, making it essentially easy to give it to the greater fighter.
I know that was a stretch lol.uncle ben likes this.

Bless Floyd, a favorite fighter of mine, but exceedingly limited as a heavy in the open division of monsters. He vs Jack Sharkey, now that's the kinda 50/50 fight Valhalla gets behind, so ignore the stretch marks on U own behind to put U rear in gear, and maybe that fateful day will come when U allowed to see that fight...
