Duran was an animal at LW, JMM has great skills but Duran is too much for him at LW IMO.

You don't think Marquez might change that tactic if he fought someone like Duran? I mean, Marquez has never been KOed/TKOed - but then again he's never fought someone with power like Duran.
Both very strange comments. Marquez, while not a big lightweight, didn't measure up too bad against natural LW's in Casamayor and Diaz and Duran wasn't a big lightweight at all. Most of his opponents were bigger than him in fact so the size wouldn't be an advantage for either guy considering they were both 5'7" which is the average height for a lightweight and Marquez has a greater reach than Duran also.

Duran not having an iron chin is one of the most absurd statements made recently though. He was without a doubt one of the most iron chinned fighters of recent times. Rarely ever knocked down, only twice that I can think of, and only stopped by a guy that many consider the hardest right hand puncher of all time in Hearns who also had such a height and reach advantage, as well as being in his prime against a guy that was out of his prime at his best weight (which also happened to be well above Duran's best weight) doesn't really tell the story properly. Duran's chin was pure granite and if you don't know that you don't know much.

Also being stopped when he was reaching fifty at middleweight by Joppy which if you consider that Joppy hadn't even been born when Duran first started fighting professionally isn't much to go by. It was more of an injury than a stoppage too.

Just think about it like this: If Duran wasn't seriously iron chinned he would have, as a natural lightweight who started fighting at 118 pounds, been stopped and knocked out a hell of a lot more after he turned thirty and moved up and above 147 pounds. He fought up to light-heavyweight until he was past fifty, so far past his natural weight and age that the fact he wasn't knocked out consistently during that period shows he had one of the best chins possible. Barkley hit him with some monster shots when he was nearly forty in their brawl and nothing fazed him and Barkley was one of the most brutal middleweight punchers of that era and considering Barkley won titles in three weight divisions and blew out heavyweight champ Coetzee in his last great fight, winning a minor HW title, he could carry that power from 160 to over 200 pounds. Bad chin?

manos de piedra would've taken this...

he has had everything JMM has (precise counter-punching & poise) plus solid defense, power & pressure...

like what old gringo said... it is an unfair match-up...

Difficult to say because although id favour Duran i think JMM would have his success's to, because whilst Duran tightened up his D after the first two De Jesus fights he was still a bit wreckless at times and i can see JMM nailing him a few times, plus Marquez can punch so i would not count him out, however i think what would be the difference is Duran's ability to physically man handle JMM. Marquez strikes me as a fighter that does not like to get roughed up on the inside and i think Duran could get him out of that smooth counter punching style, not saying JMM is slick but he does have good concentration when he is counter punching and Duran could disrupt that imo.

JMM does have a shaky chin to so........

Duran by TKO, though JMM has a lot of heart so he might be able to lose a decision. Either way it's a bad matchup for JMM.

I agree at 135 its Duran, don't understand why some fighters today are even put P4P with Duran, Marquez has some heart even going on posts here, yes he fought Diaz great stuff but Diazis no Duran but this is top 5 Atg fighter Duran invinsible at 135.
But then again if were a Duran turning pro & Marquez then who knows.
