There's plenty of boxing experts here, including Nash out TBE. The old guys left because they were living in the past and got left behind, crumpled up in chairs wearing their nostalgic glasses, remembering the "glory days" of cheering on Iron Hype Tyson or talking about how good guys are that they have seen 10 seconds footage of on Youtube. The little I know is that during the 50s Liston was controlled by Blinky Palermo which meant Franky Carbo and the IBC.

Gus refused the challenge to Floyd based on the argument he didn't want to deal with the IBC.

Carbo and Palmero go to prsion in 1960 and story has it that his new manager is still loyal to Blinky, but the IBC was blown out of existence by the FBI.

Floyd then breaks with Gus and takes the Liston fight.

But with this chronology there is no reason for Patterson to leave Gus. So I'm not sure what happened.

I was hoping someone might understand why Patterson left the Catskills.
