I don't really think it was Norton's strength that troubled Ali as much as his ability to neutralize Ali's jab, Norton was very good at neutralizing an opponents jab when going forward like was able to do against Ali and to a lesser extent Holmes.

Anyways, I just favor Ali in this fight because I think Louis' weaknesses play into Ali's hands moreso than the other way around, that doesn't mean Louis should be counted out though, his timing was superb, among the best ever and he knew how to place his punches for maximum damage.

But then you could say look at how Ali was dropped by the limted Sonny Banks, nearly knocked out against Henry Cooper and struggled with Doug Jones. Both fighter's weakness's can play into each other's hands, but I always get the impressions that when a Louis/Ali fight topic get brought up, the majority only talk about Louis's weakness's. Here I feel are both fighters weakness's.

      Ali Weakness.........
An arm puncher who seldom put full weight behind his blows, he neglected body punching and his in fighting was restricted to hooking his glove around his opponet's neck. On his way up he was dropped by Sonny Banks, and Henry Cooper, he was temporarily befuddled by Karl Mildenberger's southpaw style. Emanuel Steward once said '' Ali had problems with physically strong guys who were not itimidated by him like Ken Norton.

      Louis's Weakness..........
Louis struggled with speed (Billy Conn), unpredictability (Aturo Godoy), and cuteness (Jersey Joe Walcott). Louis was dropped 10 times and was twice stopped by smaller men. Both Tony Galento and Rocky Marciano dropped him with hooks. Jack Johnson said Louis ''was a slow footed manufactured boxer and a sucker for the right ''Marked Mechanical flaws and not a very bright boy''. Gene Tunney said in 1938 ''Louis still dosent roll with a punch''
I'm not saying that it's a foregone conclusion that Ali wins. Far from it. I only pointed out some parameters that was to his advantage.

To me this is the ATG dream fight and a winner is so hard to pick.

If you want a strong point of Joe Louis I'd say his ability and creativity to put punches together with devastating power is the best in HW history only rivalled by Jack Dempsey and Mike Tyson.

I also think Louis beats Ali. Ali relied on a lot of things to win fights. He relied on getting the other guy tired. He relied on the other guy making ****** mistakes. And he made a career out of looking good against fighters with slow hands. Against Louis, Ali has none of those things going for him. Ali would do well while in retreat, but as soon as Louis corners him or gets him up against the ropes, Ali is in trouble. In order to win, Ali would have to rely on his 4th signature trick, holding Louis and pushing his head down while the referee does nothing. Even then, Louis could still find a way.

This wouldn't be a good fight for Ali to try the rope a dope!

            Pretty much my view too.

I think Joe Louis in his prime has a hell of a chance in outpointing the Ali of 1989 but he would struggle against an Ali of 1984 due to the fact that Ali still had a working pulse and a working pulse was Joe Louis's worst nightmare especially when his opponent fought with one

Instead of listening to what Jerry Izenberg has to say on the matter how about you actually go watch that fight in it's entirety,Come back with a scorecard and show it to me because such a claim is so laughable that even Izenberg himself backed down on his claims of a robbery when corrected by bert sugar

Welcome back princemanspoper. I take it that the 27 top 10 ranked contenders and the 8 hall of famers that Louis fought didn't have a working pulse then?

I have watched the Cassius Clay vs Doug Jones fight numerous times, and the fight was extremely close in which some thought that Jones had won the decision, after the decision was annouced the crowd booed Clay with mercy, and Jones received the cheers of a winner.

If Bert Sugar said the sky was blue I would look up to check for myself, that's how much I takes his word into consideration. Sugar tells a good story and dosen't let facts get in the way. So using him as a realible source is laughable.

Pretty funny how ''princemanspoper'' has just been banned, and here you are talking in the exact same context as him as a new member.
