  • Boxing ring sizes

The row over the ring size for canelo v saunders got me thinking. Are there any title fights of the past with particulary large or small sized rings? Isn't the minimum 16 ft and the max 24? I think I recall cooper saying he had to fight ali in a huge ring. Would outcomes be different in some of those fights if the ring size was changed?

I remember seeing footage on an unlicensed fight with lenny mclean once and the ring looked about the size of a dinner table lol unlicensed though i guess is the key word there,

I've heard tell Leonard negotiated (paid for) a huge ring against Hagler (at least 22 ft.). Hagler bit like a starving snapper, I've heard say.

He used it well - smart move - Dempsey and Tunney had a go over ring size for both fights.

Ever hear the Angelo Dundee story about cutting off two feet from the middle of a tape measure to con some opponent into believing that the ring was as large as per contract?

          - -Ray/Marv in a 24' ring/12rd just to get diva Ray to sign. Orgs signed off on making 20' the standard for title fights. End of the day, no press will be allowed to measure and fast Eddie has John Ryder at the ready to sub for BJ no matter the size. Angelo more noted for losening ropes for Ali in the Foreman fight as he attempted in Frazier 1 before Teddy Brenner kicked him out of MSG untold fight time.

Odd thing was, Saunders wanted a ring bigger than any ring he had ever fought in
