Being the oldest heavyweight champion in my opinion is a record that will never be broken. Then again, Tyson’s record for youngest heavyweight champ probably isn’t getting broken either.
Floyd Patterson is the youngest HW Champion by two months. Tyson WAS NOT HW Champion until he stopped Michael Spinks.

Scantioning belts and undisputed is for the casuals and HBO; fans like us know to respect the lineal crown when it can be respected.

Ali - Holmes - Spinks - Tyson (Two months older than Patterson; don't buy the HBO marketing rhetoric; to think that any fight fan would call Mike Tyson HW Champion for defeating Trevor Berbick offends the gods of prize fighting.)

Remember we are the gate keepers of the sacred; the lineal title. If not for us the evil would rule.

P.S. Mike Tyson would probably agree with me, not HBO and the WBC.

          - - Lineal title just another made up title back in the day.

Just to humor you, Rocky retired, so who Floyd beat to become Lineal?

Olympic Gold Medal Rademacher making his pro debut?

I said 'when it can be respected.' - Same thing with Tunney. It happens and then we have move to consensus.

And you you damn well it had nothing to do with the amateur; the consensus formed with the Moore fight.

But are you actually saying to me that Tyson became HW Champion of the World when he defeated Berbick?

              - - Ancient Archie who was previously KOed by Lineal Rocky = consensus?
Or Tommy Jackson Floyd KOed the fight before?
Or 0-0, 0 KO Rademacher who managed to put down Floyd hard?
Or undefeated Roy Harris from Cut & Shoot, Texas?

Berbick beat Ali only one fight removed from his "lineal title" according to my Tooth Faerie.

Are you saying Tyson who consolidated every belt scrap that could be had was not Lineal.

I get your point regarding Tyson; all the prowess played out in just 90 seconds against Spinks.

But yes, I say he wasn't the lineal champ until he beat Spinks.

Corbett sat on the title for two years before he would defend against Fitzsimmons (creating the Maher mess) but Fitzs wasn't champion until he took out Cotbett.

Fitz sat on the tile for three years before he gave Jeffries a fight. Dempsey three . . .

No matter who Tyson defeated the lineal title didn't change hands until he took out Spinks.

Any other opinion on the matter takes you down the slippery slope to becoming a scantioning body/HBO bltch.

It's at times difficult to assess, at times manufactured, but it's important that it be maintained (recognized) when available.

Spinks was there and he was that guy no matter what HBO might have said about it.

                    - - So, if I whoop 300 lb Lewie, all subsequent lineal titles become defunct?

I'd go for it, but he's still ducking the Vit rematch, so he ain't up to it.

Oh that's a shame - did he really blow up to over 300 lbs or are you speculating he would.

I was thinking the other day, almost started a new thread, as to which HW Champions got to live the best post fight lives; which the worst.

Bowe a candidate for one of the worst and was thinking Lewis for one of the best.

He comes across not only still lucid, but cultured as well. I thought he would be the type of man to stay in shape.
