Who Do You Rank Higher Mike Tyson or George Foreman ?

Who do you consider to be the better heavyweight all time ? Better as in resume, accomplishments, ability, skill, who they beat, etc. Not who would have one in a hypothetical head to head fight.

Both had great short runs showing a certain level of viciousness in their KOs.

Both ended up regaining their titles years after losing it.

Mike Tyson was the youngest heavyweight champion and George Foreman was the oldest.

Who do you rank higher ?

    Please give reasons why

Interesting parameters. But I'll go with Foreman. His destruction of Frazier and Norton trump any of Tysons wins and his losses were all against top contenders. Tyson had more ability, but it never transferred to the level of greatness Foreman reached in my opinion.

Thing is Patterson is still the youngest of all to win the heavyweight championship. Tyson did not accomplish a similar feat until he beat Spinks.

Yes, thank you for saying that out loud --- also what does the OP mean when he says Tyson regained his title ? Maybe he won BS belt but he was never HW Champion of World again after Douglas KOed him.

Beat Bruno for a title. Then beat Seldon and pretty clearly re established himself as the number 1 heavyweight in the world going into the Holyfield fight.

He was never lineal again, but I don't care about that because George Foreman was holding it hostage.

Alright that's a fair argument but I disagree - I'm a lineal guy - holding the HW Title hostage is a boxing tradition (like throwing chairs after a bad decision) -- I say stick with traditions. The world is always an unfair place; many a great contender got screwed out of their shot and I don't think Tyson deserves special treatment - if he didn't want Foreman sitting on the title then he shouldn't have let Douglas kick his butt in the first place. I disagree Tyson never regained his title; needed to beat Holyfield to do that.

Tyson was a one time heavyweight champion. Patterson twice.

If you are a lineal guy then Tyson beating Holyfield wouldn't have mattered because Holyfield wasn't the lineal champion at the time (George Foreman still was)
