so lets compare history to present day. are you familiar with how the marathon came about?

well you see the persians are attacking marathon so marathon sends out one of their runners to go see the spartians and see if they can help. so this runner go's from marathon to sparta 150 miles over moutains and rocky terrain in less then 2 days the spartans decline saying they need to wait for the new moon or something i dont know but any ways this guy runs back to marathon 150 miles rocky mountainous. so now this guy has just ran 300 miles over some rather difficult terrain in about a week. the morning he gets back to marathon the Persians are there and he gets to fight with the Persians all morning surviving the battle. the Persians retreat(6500 casulities vs 800) and start to move around to coast in order to attack athens this runner then goes 24 miles from marathon to athens in less then 3 hours to warn them of the appraching persians.

many years later 1908 Olympics the king or england or what ever wanted the marathon to end at his box seat so it became 26 miles.

now do you know any one that can run more then a marathon over rocky terrain every day for 7 days straight fight a war then run another marathon immediately afterwards. i dont think theres any one alive that can pull that off in this day while back then all it took was an quick/average greek solider.

C'mon Danny, you're saying you recognize it but can't offer proof? Do you know how ridiculous that sounds? Fact is, it isn't true. You have convinced yourself it is though because of the inferior film of the day, and that is the ONLY thing you have to base this assumption on.

If this has come of harsh it isn't out of disrespect for you. I've read your posts before and enjoy them. But this I just cannot agree with.

No it hasn't come harsh its just a friendly disagreement.

I think floyd beats pep fairly easily the same reason i think mike tyson would beat joe louis easily, fighters back in the day never seen fighting styles such as mayweathers or tysons.

And it does sound ridiculous saying the game is faster without proof but i still believe it is, I guess just because in every other sport we have seen progression year after year and records constantly being broken. And athletes have much more knowledge now on how to eat and train to make themselves better. It would suprise me if boxing was the only sport that remained constant

Do you even know how many fights pep was in? A man without power with that many wins and the ONLY BOXER to win a round without throwing a punch. I got pep on this you guys act like if mayweather is a god hell mayweather would of not been undefeated if he would of fought in peps time.

Im glad we're cool, my friend.

I think fighters back in the day saw a lot more styles because they fought so much more. Hell, Tyson patterned his fighting style after Dempsey if Im not mistaken. But lets say you're right about both Tyson and Mayweather. Does that not mean the Peps and Louis' would not still be great fighters today? After all, The Floyds and Mikes beat the b est today when they're at their best.......but.......the competition isn't nearly as thick and they get to fight under optimal conditions.

Its funny, both the Great A and I were just arguing this yesterday against someone on NSB. Other sports evolve thru their equipment to allow its competitors to get better. Tracks and feilds have evolved to let people run faster. Pads are lighter. Clothing in some soports like skiing and swimming have become aerodynamic to allow competitors to be faster. Baseball fields got smaller while the balls have been juiced to be hit further. Tennis rackets, skates, etc, etc, etc, are all geared for the athlete. Boxers on the other hand wear heavier gloves, fight less rounds and less often. I just can't see how that makes them better today. How they have evolved.
