Yeah his early fights were a bit weak but you could say that about most fighters really, also to be fair your Granny was seriously under rated in my view.
He put away some good fighters, can't remember anyone else KO'ing Robbie Simms, Hearns couldn't put away Barkley, De Witt was quite a tough guy. Whatever the theory on Jackson and McClellan Jackson couldn't put McClellan away in 2 fights but Benn did.
Also I only ever saw a cruiser (Thompson) hurt Eubank like Benn did.
Not saying he was the best MW to lace on gloves but he wasn't bad and was always game and gave great value.

His style is truly odd, where he keeps the left lead extended from a back foot crouch.. He kind of uses it as an antenai to guage punches coming in, with the right low & loaded..
Both fighters are similar in attitude, with a 'fight em on the cobbles' type of persona..
Has all the makings of being a fantastic British scrap, 'tear up', as Benn liked to say.. Thrills & spills for sure, but I very much doubt Carl would get KO'd.. Froch's better than Henry Wharton with a similar chin..
A Benn DC victory sounds about right, but the pre prime Benn who gassed against Watson & Eubank1, would quite possibly get stopped by Froch..
Wharton had a granit chin ....and i think if Wharton was around today and fought froch ...he would give froch a hard night IMO

I think Benn was a great fighter. Although he was losing to Mclellan in that fight what extrodanary heart he showed to survive those knockdowns and keep taking the fight to the g-man.

Its a shame what happened to gerald, It was like a switch suddenly flicked off or something, it would of been fantastic if those 2 had gone the 12 rounds and not been hurt

            Cheers.

I know but what i think about that is.............De Witt and Barkley both backed Hearns up and took away his leverage and his power was not such a huge factor when he was on the backfoot, plus i think De Witt had seen better days, Barkley was stopped on a 3 KD rule to.

I cant take the McClellan fight as a fair stoppage for obvious reasons.

Oh no, dont get me wrong Benn was a brave fighter and he makes me feel proud to say he was a Brit because he had balls of steal and fought with his heart on his sleave.

Believe it or not but i was there that night with my old man...hell of a fight but what a shame...i actually bet that McClellan would KO Benn with my Father... i remember my dad reiterating what Benn said at the press conference " Benn best better men than McClellan has " and they was right ....Benn V McClellan is one of only 3 fights i have ever bought ringsides tickets for along with Eubank V Wharton and Benn V Wharton
But in those days a ringside ticket was only £200-£300 try going nowa days for that
Those were the good old days lol

The art of boxing has always been to nullyfy the other guys strengths so credit to Benn to not allow that. De Witt was kind of second tier really but only good fighters beat him.
I always used to worry about Benn's stamina in the later rounds.
I always kind of link him and Tyson in my mind, both came out around the same kind of time both exciting KO artists but to an old fart like me had a fair few weaknesses that could be exploited.
I won a nice few bob on the Benn Watson fight BTW

Nigel's an old favorite of mine: I have all but three of his fights burned on DVDs. Also very fond of Eubank and Graham.

I'm a Froch fan. I'm a HUGE ****ing Froch fan. All I can say on this matter, is that Froch would get beaten, very very badly by Benn. Comparing Froch, Iron chinned as he might be, to one of the greatest (if not the greatest, toss up w/ Eubank) SMW to come out of England isn't even a question, in my opinion. Prime for prime, this would be absolutley no problem for Benn, he would very easily demolish Froch. I must say, though. I really don't think Froch is at his prime yet. I'll review my decision after the super six tourney...

                      Agree.

Both great wins and its not that i dont think Benn was a big puncher, i do think Benn was a big puncher, but i get slightly uneasy when people make him out to be a Jackson,Tyson type puncher, not to say you were saying that.

                      Ha Ha good for you
