No two ways about it, the Bowe of 1991-1995 was one of the best heavyweights ever, he would have given any heavyweight in history a tough fight.

It's a big shame that Bowe and Lewis never fought. That could have been a classic fight.

80's Tyson vs. Bowe, I actually can't choose a winner. It could go either way IMO.

Crying shame. Politics! Sonnybox has an encyclopedia of reasons why the fight didn't come off.

Although Lennox had looked good in beating Razor Ruddock he wasn't anything like the finished article in 1992-93, the Bruno and McCall fights emphasised this. The Bowe that fought Holyfield would have probably beaten this Lennox.

Realistically though, I dont know if I'd have picked the 1994-95 Lewis over Bowe either. Lewis was still rebuilding after the McCall loss at this point and I dont know that he would have had the confidence or enough time with Manny Steward to have beaten Bowe then, even in 1996 he struggled with Ray Mercer! Bowe would have surely beaten that version of Lennox.

It looks like the fight was seriously in the pipeline for late 1996, but Bowe had the Golota wars which really finished off his world title prime. Lewis would have destroyed the 1996/97 Bowe.

Prime for prime a difficult fight to call though! But their primes were five years apart. Bowe was near shot just as Lennox entered his prime in 1997.

As for peak Bowe vs peak Tyson, two great athletes with widely contrasting styles, dimensions and physiques. Both were fast, had great chins, fine amateur heritage. I just shade prime Tyson in overall ability, but doubt that he would actually stop Bowe.

Ray Mercer was an elite Heavyweight. He could have easily gotten the decisions against Lewis and Holyfield. We also saw what he did to Tommy Morrison.

And...we would have saw Mercer vs Bowe but Jesse Ferguson's inconsistent ass had other ideas.

I never saw any evidence that Bowe was chinny.
Bowe could box, had a good chin, has a ten inch reach advantage and if Tyson gets inside Bowe is the better inside fighter.
I rate Tyson above Bowe but this is a pup of a fight for Tyson to win.

He was also better on the inside than Evander, its a combination of the two factor's not just his size.

Bowe was a joke, Lewis iced him in the olympics and Bowe ran scared from him his whole career.

Yeah Lewis beat him and was the better fighter, but Bowe was no joke. When focused, Bowe was as good as anyone who has ever fought. To bad those times were few and far between.
