Old time boxers are way overrated?

You have to keep in mind that the sport was transitioning from bare-knuckle to modern boxing at that time; gloves really are a game changer. One reason why fighter from the early areas of gloved boxing are so hard to compare to ones who came later.Comment

I'm Not On the warpath to you my friend..... I just noticed this horrid little thread,... and Nobody was defending the greats.... I just gave them my opinion....... actually I can't remember if I had a go at you.......... I don't think I did at least........ I'll buy you a beer.Comment

The turn of the century fighters aren't overrated, there's just some boxing fans- myself included- who don't enjoy how they fought or aren't very interested in them. Their abilities and contributions are to be respected and admired.Comment

If any of the fighters today, only had 1910 film technology and you saw the films when they were a hundred years old........ They'd hardly look any different to what the old-timers do now.......... that's the only reason you don't see the skills..... There are more fighters with hands held high now,..... but there were some then too,... only problem was, the fighters who held their hands lower were usually better,.... a la ALI and many others too many to list,.... they hold their hands low,.... and have much success,.... so who's to say which is a better approach ???......... it usually comes down to natural born talent............................................ .......... being a great slugger is also a TALENT !!!!Comment

Very true. Grainy black and white film at different speeds, 1 camera and usually from a distance make it very hard to discern certain nuances.Comment
