Old time boxers are way overrated?

I seen some of the videos and they look like they got no technique compared to boxers of today. i mean the boxers from the 1900'ish era. They
re all wild swinging prolly guys that think they were tough and big just went into boxing without any skill at that time is what I think. old time boxers look flat out horrible to me. I seen AM's with 20 fights that fight better than them.
I'd even go far as to say if you took a good AM with at least 20 fights from now and shoved them into that era they could be a boxing legend.
these guys are way overrated although there are a few that have some good skills but it's not that great when most of the fighters you beat were bums who didn't know how to fight.

the 1900's was when the sport of boxing started picking up, they were good for their day - like every sport it improves over time. Proper technique wasn't around back then, but they had heart and determination, I'm sure with proper training of later years they would have been great in any era. Johnson naturally had a really muscular build, i suspect he would have been a light heavy or even a SMW though with today's day before weigh in's.

Well i kind of see that era kind of like the first few ufc's there was little to no technique which is used in the recent ones because people were still figuring out the sport.

The sport was just starting but Jack Johnson was a great fighter, so was John L Sullivan ,But the sport Really started getting great in the 30s then came Louis, Marciano,Patterson,Liston then Ali, and the rest is history, The Heavyweight division has always been Strong, Every 10 years came a new great, But now, well.......You know the rest.

Sometimes I think today's fighters - especially the heavyweights - are vastly INFERIOR to fighters of old. Todays heavyweights are slow, fat, inactive, and poorly conditioned compared to guys like Marciano and Louis.

One thing I think is beyond dispute - you don't see the same mental toughness in fighters these days. Can you picture a Vitali Klitscko or a Dominic Guinn fighting broken-handed in 100 degree heat with little to no food in their stomachs?

The gloves were smaller. The likelihood of knocking the other guy out was greater. There wasn't a whole lot of sense in throwing pitter pats.
