In terms of popularity and money making ability, without a doubt, "Iron" Mike was the best.

Holyfield, arguably won the second (?) Lewis fight and fought a decent version of Tyson and won, 2 times. He did all that and wasn't even in his absolute prime.


Tyson wasn't the best in terms of p4p in the 90's because he had already slid into his notorious self. The 80's? easily Iron Mike. He did what Evander couldn't do to Holmes, in 4 rounds.

Holyfield was too inconsistent for me, mixing some great performances with some average ones. He beat a lesser version of Tyson twice, but against his best competition, he was 1-2 with Bowe, 1-1 with Moorer and 0-1-1 with Lewis (and many would say 0-2).

Tyson's best years were in the 80s. His only major wins in the 90s were against Ruddock in '91, then when he returned from prison with much diminished skills he was little more than a travelling freak show. Still a major attraction, but never showed he was still a force in the division.

Bowe won a great series with Holyfield, but other than that didn't do a great deal. He got hammered twice by the second best contender he ever faced, and for one reason or another never faced many of the top heavies of his day.

So I give it to Lewis. Beat Holyfield and Tyson, Bowe threw his WBC belt in the dustbin rather than face him, avenged both his losses, beat most all of the other relevant heavies of the era, and unlike the other three managed to retire on top with his dignity intact.
