  • Undefeated fighters.....

Who are some fighters who retired undefeated and stayed retired? I'm not interested in hearing about current undefeated fighters like Calzaghe and Mayweather (I know he says he's retired but I don't believe him yet) I want to hear about fighters who actually stayed retired.

The only one I can think of right now is Rocky Marciano...

Let's hear some more. They don't have to be HOFers or anything.

I don't have any doubt Jim Jeffries would have stayed retired if not for the massive pressure put on him to come back because much of "white" America, at the time, couldn't stand to have Jack Johnson as heavyweight champ.

Ricardo Lopez retired undeated and never came back.

Seems as if Joe Mesi is retired.

Sven Ottke, although there's a big question mark over some of his wins. He was meant to be making a comeback against Dariusz Michalczewski recently, but it was called off.

There's been many fighters throughout history who have gone their whole careers without defeat, including a few champions even going back to the days when both Jack McAuliffe and Jimmy Barry retired as such.

There are quite a few who retired before winning a world championship. Laszlo Papp won 3 Olympic gold medal, and was undefeated as a pro but because of living in communist Hungary was not able to continue his career.

Terry Marsh was IBF champ at 140, and was forced to retire because of health reasons. It's commonly believed that it was him that shot Frank Warren, but he wasn't convicted.

** Believe Jimmy Barry was the first fighter to retire undefeated.

Of course, no way can we mention Jimmy Barry without mentioning Ed "Too Tall" Jones who retired with a perfect 6-0, 5 KO, 83% KO ratio, not to mention 88" reach.

Never could replace his Cowboy salary, so retirement from the backwaters of boxing was inevitable.

yep, if he would have stayed retired instead of comin back to fight Johnson at 35 he would be rated much higher by most than he is now since all most people see is Jeff gettig whooped in that one fight and don't know about all the previous wins he had.
