Yeah, I remember that. When you think about it, that was completely uncalled for by Bowe. He deserved to get his career ended and balls smashed by Golata. LOL I liked Bowe, but he was afraid of Lewis and turned into a Tyson after he won the title.

      Battling Nelson

Most definitely the toughest ever (my avatar).

He once won a headbutting contest were the 2 men got their hands tied behind their backs. The fight was over when the opponent of the famous battler had his forehead split wide open.

The comebacking George Foreman took some hellish shots during his second career too!

Hagler destroyed every middleweight he faced, at least mentally, his ability to take a punch is nothing short of extraordinary, he was actually pushed down by Roldan, this was overturned from a knockdown I think, and pretty much smiled alot when he faced Leonard and Duran. Hearns broke some hands against his face

At Heavyweight I'd pick Cobb, at lighterweights Hagler was just unreal at taking shots.

Wanted to bump this old thread to point something out.....

Randy Cobb, George Chuvalo, Hagler, LaMotta, McCall, Tua, Toney, etc were named as having some really sturdy chins and / or hard heads.

And to this day, not one of them has any signs of pugilistic dementia or related brain damage diseases!

Wilfred Benitez was a guy known for has radar-like defense, and yet, look at him today. Ali, another slickster, and look at him now. Bobby Chacon & Wilford Scypion are suffering from the effects of some head shots. Lots more fighters who were never really "abused" in the ring are suffering from the effects of getting hit. But the ones who literally soaked up the punishment are all mentally fine.

              Any thoughts on this?

Its weird. Jerry Quarry soaked up a good bit of punishment, was good for awhile and went suddenly down hill. I think both Holyfield and Whitaker are showing signs of having taken to many punches.

                  Excellent thread, TerryA.

Just reading through the posts and there is some excellent examples.

Suprised at no mention of Carmen Basilio, though? Guy took a hell of a lot of punishment and was only stopped by one man in his entire career near the end of his career.

Thanks Iron Dan. Lots of guys helped with good input to build that thread up.

And I agree with you about Carmen. He for sure had an A+ noggin!
