Surprise, surprise... even as an amateur it wasn't beneath Ray to fight a guy half his size.

Clancy considered Pep the better of the two P4P, and Angelo similarly modeled his fighters after Pep, not Robinson. We saw a facsimile of Robinson vs. Pep in Foreman vs. Ali.

You're the one that is old and senile.
      - -If U wanna claim old and senile whups U a new one, that's on U, not me.

I saw the fight and there was nothing in it. Robby incredibly skinny back then hardly what he became. They reenacted much later, and again, nothing in it. The decision was never contested and they remained friends happy in the attention they generated.

When and where did you see footage of Willie Pep vs Ray Robinson fighting in the amateurs?

          - -Ever hear of youtube?

I spent over a year scoring all the great fights before they cracked down.

There appears to be no existing footage of their amateur fight anywhere. But we're supposed to believe that crusty old Queensberry Drools was able to watch it and give an accurate technical analysis?

Why would YouTube crack down on that one specific match while leaving hundreds of others up?

              - -All the great youtube boxing sites were eliminated in the purge. Can't find squat today.

So sad u missed out. No original vid of Ali/Cooper I exists to prove the time delay of the torn glove incident, but it never happened.

Harry Greb? A figment of imagination. Moon landing? Never happened though a frantic search may have pulled up some snippets.

              U birth?

              No way Jose!

They canceled each other for a Ray decision. They recreated years later.

                No wipe out.

U been over sanitizing U thick noggin again?
Im curious how do you know the year Pep commented on this? Also, why would there be film of an amateur smoker held in the attic of a feed store in 1938? I can't find a thing about this fight ever being filmed. Can you at least supply a source that says it was?

                  - -U obviously can't handle the truth.

They was the two big AMA stars in their day on top of regional rivalry. Back then there was good natured racial rivalry with most Italians going with Pep and negros as they were called then going with Robby. No riots as folks back then more civilized than today's miscreants.

                  U may be uneducable.

Here's what Pep had to say about their 1938 encounter in the 1973 book "Friday's Heroes" (page 7):

Well I fight this guy and he's all over me. He's too good. Too big. He's punching me and punching me and I'm just trying to hang in there. When it ended and the guy won I heard his name was Ray Roberts. Later on I find out that, too, is a phony name because he was really Sugar Ray Robinson.

Doesn't sound to me, like they "canceled each other out", or that there "was nothing in it".

Also, Pep died in 2006, at the ripe old age of 84... so I strongly doubt he was senile already in '73!

I met him around 1999 and he seemed pretty sharp. We talked for about 15 minutes.
