    Queenie you are an idiot

Me: "Cuba consistently has decent fighters that are competative as professionals. Proof: People like Ortiz, Solis, etc...

Queenie: " according to ___rankings ___ are low. So that means these fighters are not competant.

Yet Ortiz, the latest, fought for a title against Wilder, Solis fought Vitalie, not to mention other Cuban fighters in JUST the heavyweight division...

So first off, nobody cares about rankings. When a fighter is good enough to be competative with the best in the division, they are competant professionals. I don't even need to mention other weight divisions... As usual you HAVE BEEN OWNED, now take your meds because You are dumb.

After watching two-time Olympic gold medalists Lomachenko and Rigondeaux I no longer think Felix Savon or Teofilo Stevenson would have been surefire all-time greats.

There's too much of the amateur style in all these guys. The pro game is a different beast with more rounds and it's not always enough to just score points. Different strategies come into play like wearing a fighter down to the body and so on.

I think you make a great point about the amatuer style. Would you believe the same critiscisms were made as far back as the late 1800's? It is very limited and changes need to be made for a fighter to use a full arsenal.

              - -Ali n'er threw to the body but a handful of times. Same with the Ks.

Ali today has to start at LH and work up to cruiser. Could he handle a gauntlet of 250 lb bruisers long enough to get a title shot?

Looked like U vs the rusty, diabetic, jiggly Mathis in his only super sized heavy bout that I remember.

                  It's a valid criticism.

The pro boxers of the sport's golden age had too deep a bag of tricks for any amateur. Felix Savon was a good fighter but significant adjustments would be required for him to "rank in the firmament of all-time."

Goes back to the training institutions. In the old days fighters were mentored by other fighters for lot of their training. Trainers were a part of that situation but we know that fighters learned a lot from others... for example, Choyinsky:Johnson Hobo fighting men: Dempsey Corbett: Tunney.

As more people wanted to box, formalization took place. The so called amatuer style is easy to follow, it is easy to teach. So naturally some fighters started to come out of this system, in places where boxing was taught.

I liken it to strip mall dojos where "teaching" karate involves line drills, as opposed to a teacher explaining, having one fight with the techniques, etc.
