A lot of them come over, gain weight and lose their hunger because of the freedom they're allowed to have in The U.S vs Cuba. I've read that the Cuban boxing school is compared to the military in several aspects. Odlanier Solís for example, gained over 50 pounds after he turned pro.

As for Savón, I'm not sure but would've loved to see it. He was a great amateur but the pros are way different. No point system, no head gear and much better comp. Lets be honest, he'd be going up against season vets/pro champions and not teens before they turned pro. Not to take anything from his legendary career, he's one of the great amateurs of all time.
Why do you think they don't transition? Not many fighters of any nationality can be top seeded in any division. Many of their fighters come here in the twilight of their career, which is also something to consider. The real measure is how many fighters of any nationality can be competative in a major boxing division. For example, compare Mexico, with 12 times the number of people, to Cuba regarding the heavyweights.

I was only strictly talking about some of the heavyweights that I've noticed. I think it boils down to discipline and adaptation to the pros. Their Cuban school of boxing is comparable to a military boot camp. Juan Carlos Gómez was once quoted as saying "I never chose boxing", it was chosen for me in Cuba". So this definitely isn't just your average boxing program. They go from strict, carefully watched discipline training methods to having the freedom to do whatever they want after defecting. Some fighters may not handle it well. Also, to me there hasn't been as many Cuban heavyweights as there have been in the lower divisions. I believe it a combination of all.

Side note: Rigo and Casamayor were some of my favorites to watch. Same with Lara, who I seen make his pro debut. Lara can also be a KO puncher when he chooses to sit down on shots. I was only talking about heavyweights.

I know (only heavyweights) but the truth is to have a few guys in the division, that tend to be competative... is quite an accomplishment. I do think your point about habits is a good one. I am coming more from the perspective, a fat, lethargic Odinaire Solis made it to a showdown with Vitalie Klitschko.

It would be wonderful if we got younger guys who could hold it together... Maybe one day.

It was a good accomplishment but if the goal of any top contender isn't to win the title, that's a bad indicator lol. He weighed way more in that fight than he should have, as he did for the majority of his career considering he was around 200 LBS in the amateurs. I definitely wouldn't mind seeing more Cuban heavies though.

I never said anything about great fighters, I said fighters who adapt and have a good professional career. I even gave an example, using Gonzalez, who was far from outstanding but managed to get a fight with Bowe.

People like you who have not attained anything might find it hard to think it through, but merely being a professional fighter in a key division is a major accomplishment.

Now stop following me around and posting nonsense! Your embarrassing yourself Ginsberg.

                  - -Quick look at boxrec rankings Luis Ortiz 14th and Frank Sanchez 27th out of 50 heavies.

1 of 50 cruisers, the 3rd ranked Dorticos the boxing powers were trying to line up Canelo for his 5th div title.

                  None at LH.

And so on and so forth.

Time for the zer0 sum IQs to find a new hobby with a drool proof keyboard.
