Ali long gone, but Inoki still with us probably able to still bust up 90% of the younger guys in this world.

It was supposed to be a match (or more of a exhibition), mixing the rules of boxing and wrestling.
But, the Ali camp didn't do their homework before the fight.
If they had, they hadn't agree to a rule that allowed a combatant to lay on the floor while fighting.
The Inoki camp won this one on smartness.

Reminds me of Tyson Fury's incredible win over Braun Strowman. Fury should get more credit for that win.

          - -Ali threatened to pull out of his $6mil purse if Inoki was allowed full MMA rules.

So the Japanese promoters allowed him to dictate the rules where Inoki could only use 10% of his arsenal vs 100% of Ali's arsenal. Maybe Inoki should've been dumbed down to 2% of his arsenal? Really?

The draw result was probably stipulated in the contract. An exhibition, more than a genuine fight ...

Back in those days pro wrestling was becoming popular. I remember any time Gorilla Monsoon would wrestle Vince McMann would call him the “greatest athlete who ever lived” (or something to that effect). At the same time Monsoon would be gasping for breath just walking around the ring. Such a joke.

Yeah Monsoon was entertaining though in the old matches I saw of him. Her also did a worked boxing match with Andre the Giant in Puerto Rico with The Grand Wizard as his manager after a rainstorm and was in Andre's corner for his boxing match with Chuck Wepner. My generation liked him a lot and remember him more as a commentator though for weekly programming and early pay per views in the WWF.

Monsoon would use a similar term for Hulk Hogan for his first title run during Hogan's matches usually calling him "The greatest professional athlete in the world today." At least in that case, it sounded better because he was the champion and in a lot better shape.

                  - -That why Ali ended up in a Japanese hospital in critical condition?

Have you ever bothered to calculate Ali's record and performances after this "exhibition?"

                  It ain't purty...
