I agree with the above statements. The points should be taken into account in a round-by-round method. This is still one of the reasons I have a problem scoring Ali-Frazier I the same way the judges did. *sigh*

What ever happened to Tim after this fight? The tops of the heavies at this time basically became overshadowed by the middleweights, and later by Tyson.
        - -All thought he wuz robbed, and so it went to his noggin that he wuv the independent champ.

Digging up this 13-year-old thread, I guess it's more about Larry than Tim.

We know you don't like Larry Holmes. But he is probably the fighter you've mentioned most in your posts, so he is occupying your thoughts.

You don't have to like him. There are fighters I like, and fighters I like less.
I'm just curious, why don't you like Larry?

I watched the bout live. Tim gave a decent account of himself but just did not do enough. Too many rounds he allowed, via his inexperience no doubt, Larry to out work him.

              - -Don't keep track, but Dempsey, Langford, Big George, the Ks, AJ, and Manny occupy far more of my attention.

Lar just a zit that needs a pop now and again.

I watched Terrible Tim live in 1981, when he flattened Alfonzo Ratliff (it was a good scalp, at the time).
And you knew, if Tim would continue being dedicated to the sport, he would mean trouble for any heavyweight.

I still think, he was rushed into the Holmes fight.
But when they clashed, it was two favorite fighters of mine.

Holmes, in his prime, always entertained me. Tim sort of wasted his career, not taking it seriously until it was too late.

But those two are my favorite heavies of the 80s. Tyson may excuse me.
And we missed a helluva fight: a dedicated Tim vs Tyson.

                  - -Agree Tim more talented than Holmes, but Lar stable marriage saved him from the King M/O of drugs and Hooes that kept the rest under his thumb.

The previous poster hit it on the head. Tim just did not have the drive or dedication. IF he had these attributes which is a characteristic of ATG champions he could have been somebody. Instead he was a nobody, a contender who could never take it to the next level. Holmes outworked Tim in most of the rounds therein the win.
