Foreman's return to boxing coincided with Tyson winning the heavyweight championship. Foreman thought he could beat Tyson and reclaim the heavyweight crown and he also wanted to raise money for his community centre in the process. His 1987 return to the ring had nothing to do with Holmes retiring.

who gives a ****? i think it would have been a boring fight anyway, foreman would try to knock him out, both would get tired and prob jst look at each other most of the fight, it would look like a roy jones stand off but even slower lol plus foreman would win lol

I agree, to add more to your posts, further proof is when foreman at 45 became the oldest HW champ by knocking out Moorer in 94', the next year, big george defend the IBF title against an unranked opponent axel schultz and Holmes, two weeks earlier barely lost a close decision to McCall for the WBC belt, had holmes won, I still dont think foreman would ever stepped in the ring with Holmes.

I really don't think that Foreman was ducking Holmes. At the time that Foreman came out of retirement, Mike Tyson was the new champ and at that time, he looked way way more intimidating that Holmes. Mike Tyson would have been a great style matchup for Foreman, and I think that old George would have had a great chance at beating him, but still, it is ludicrous to think at that time that Foreman would be afraid of Holmes and not afraid of Tyson.
I think that Foreman versus Holmes would have looked quite similar to Foreman versus Moorer. Holmes would win most of the rounds, but the whole fight big George would be measuring him and looking for the knockout shot, and eventually would find it.
Also, as has been mentioned, the main reason why Foreman had decided to come back was because he was running out of money from running a community center out of his own pocket.

By the time george finds out larry has retired, he decides to finally make his comeback, kinda odd isnt it. Larry Holmes keeps saying that george intentionally tries to avoid holmes and never brings him up when talking about the all time greats. He also claims that from 87-94, george was handpicking all of his opponents and never even bothered to fight larry. They were supposed to fight in 99 and 2004 and supposedly george was the one that pulled out.
I would pick larry to beat him if it goes past the 4th round. He was the more skilled boxer and could have stopped him later in the 9th or 10th round just like he did against shavers. George is slower than tyson, so larry doesnt have to worry about the bobbing and weaving tactic to get inside his reach.
U beginning to think, a very underrated oxymoron.
Tubsy Lar never a ranked fighter nor held a title when George was active knocking growed men around like bowling pins.
I'd just like to add anyone can take my boxing 101 class for a reduced tuition for those mentally stupefied or otherwise besotted.

A loss to old Holmes might have totally derailed Foreman’s comeback. I am sure George realized Holmes had the skills to outbox him even at an advance age. I have no doubt George was unafraid but he probably realized a win over old Holmes ment nothing but a loss would be catastrophic.
