boxing styles is like the game of rock, sciccors and paper.

Boxer beats a slugger, Slugger beats a swarmer and a swarmer beats a boxer genral rule of thumb.

The weird thing during the end of 70s and 80s and part of 90s there where many hybrid boxer who could box and slugg or swarm and slugg but not much in the HW why is that?

I don't think I'd personally have him in there, but at his very best at heavyweight (from '48-51 or thereabouts) I don't think Ezzard Charles would look all that out of place in a lower end spot on a top ten list for this category...

Due to what he offers from a stylistic perspective, I think he's more than capable of giving both Liston & Foreman (to name two) a hell of a time in there and it wouldn't suprise me at all if he could actually beat them.

You put Marciano over Liston and Foreman on a head-to-head list?

Hey, this is a damn good thread. People, dont get confused, its not another top 10 greatest thread.

Muhammad Ali(Rare HW style that would have been hell for any HW)
George Foreman(Unbelievable strenght and power, a handfull for anyone)
Jack Dempsey(Speedy Power with bobbing and weaving, dangerous and annoying)
            Larry Holmes
Rocky Marciano(You can take away his head, but you cant take away his Heart!)
Mike Tyson(Rare combination of Speed and Power, comes with a classic style and discipline)
Joe Louis(Skillfull and deadly, with a lot of heart)
Lennox Lewis(Big framed, Skilled and tough to overcome)
Sonny Liston(Long reaching Jab, strenght and power)

Last one is between Joe Frazier, the swarming warrior, and Evander Holyfield the Head butting Warrior. I cant decide between those, but i might replace one them with Sonny Liston, because i dont know if Liston had Heart, and these 2 had some of the greatest hearts ever.

Who's to say Marciano wouldn't overcome Liston, or even Foreman? Perhaps you, Butterfly?

head to head lists are almost impossible to make

                  styles make fights

slugger(foreman) beats swarmer (frazier) beats boxer (ali) beats slugger

someone said its like rock scissors paper.

marciano and frazier actuially any swarmer are gonna go down quickly against liston foreman maybe even lyle but either one would do alot better against a good boxer like ali than a slugger would

Definitely. They both had some entertaining (street)fights.

Assuming they're all in their primes, this is how it works:

                      Ali
                      Lennox Lewis
                      Mike Tyson
                      Larry Holmes
                      George Foreman
                      Vitali Klitschko
                      Evander Holyfield
                      Joe Louis
                      Sonny Liston
                      Joe Frazier
                      Jack Johnson (Hon mention)

And frankly, I don't even know if Ali belongs at the top. The modern heavies are just too big and strong for even Joe Louis. Sorry, but that's how it works out head-to-head.
