thank about it, if he wasn't swinging so much and just box, the way he did against Frazier, could he have beaten Ali. I say yes and no, cause Ali still had some speed even at time, and could outbox Foreman, but Foreman could knockdown if he caught him good, and could've ended in a possible KO for Foreman, but it's not very likely. your thoughts?

Not sure who said it, or which documentary it was from, but he said if the fight wasn't postponed, Foreman would of won the fight...Foreman's confidence was very high, and he was his normal calm self...Foreman got cut in training, the mood changed, and Foreman wanted to go home during the postponement... I even heard (but not sure) that he didn't want to have the fight in Africa anymore...Foreman was just mentally different by the time he fought Ali, his strategy changed.
Foreman had the ability to beat this version of Ali, but not so sure about a "Prime" Ali or pre-exile.
I still wonder what would of happened in the rematch if it would of taken place in both their next fight. I don't think Foreman is going to make the same mistake twice...He barely used the jab in that fight, just remember that.

Over 30 years after and some people still don't understand that Foreman had no chance against Ali. Foreman couldn't fight better than he did and he knew it and he still lost. He cut the ring very well so Ali was forced to fight Foreman's fight but what Ali had is speed advantage to constatly beat Foreman to the punch. Ali, because he was in great condition, and well prepared had a lot of power in those punches. It wasn't just that Foreman punched himself out, but Ali hit him with some tremendous blows in every round. Foreman was made for Ali because he had no head movement and he was easy target, and of course he had stamina problems. Foreman knew that he fought the best he could and was still beaten pretty easily so he didn't want no rematch, not in 1975. He wasn't fighting in 1975 at all. Foreman was actually mentally beaten and went trough some tough times. He even admit that himself. The question is if Foreman didnt punch himself out, what would have happened?
Was his only chance a late KO?

I gave Foreman rounds 3, 4 and 5 I think purely because of the amount of punches he was throwing and landing. If he slowed his pace down and didn't go flat out then he would not have completely tired himself out. In that case it would be Ali by UD, then Foreman's only chance would be a hard punch/combination in the later rounds to finish Ali.
Although practicly all outcomes result in an Ali win.Comment

if foreman picked his punches better and actually made suree they hit body and not elbows he would have taken ali down even ali cannot take that much punishment. In picking his punches foreman would also not tire so easily hoever he did try this against young and it certainly didn't work! by the 7th round foreman was sleep walking just tappping ali, ali knew he had it won.
i actually think a 40 yearold foreman would have done better he certainly wouldn't have won though!
if foreman learned to box properly and fought like sonny liston for example he may well have beaten ali and he may have been remembered as the best ever But he didn't and he isn't.Comment
