Dmitry Bivol: record, next fight and profile →
World of Boxing's Andrey Ryabinskiy, promoter for WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol, has confirmed that his company has indeed been approached about the possibility of facing Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in the fall.
Mexico's Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez (42-0, 28 KOs) is marching full steam ahead in his quest to capture a world title at the light heavyweight limit of 175-pounds.
Undefeated Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez’ stock recently rose after his sensational fourth-round stoppage of world title challenger Sullivan Barrera (22-3, 14 KOs), positioning the Mexican boxer for a world title shot in the light heavyweight division, and putting the three world champions on notice.
Veteran trainer Virgil Hunter, who guided Andre Ward to unified title runs at super middleweight and light heavyweight, does not see a single fighter in either division that has a concrete shot of beating Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez.
Eddy Reynoso, trainer and manager of Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, says his team will do everything possible to finalize a fight with IBF super middleweight champion Caleb Plant.
Gilberto Ramirez is apparently trying to make up for lost time. The former 168-titleholder and current light heavyweight Mexican contender has seen his career go by the wayside in recent years due to promotional issues–he fought only twice in the past two years–but he has seemingly found his footing after signing with Golden Boy Promotions earlier this spring.
For many, California is the land of dreams, but Joshua Buatsi is struggling to see what all the fuss is. The Bay Area has been the light-heavyweight’s base since he teamed up with Virgil Hunter earlier this year, but while many have it as the place they would most like to live, Buatsi is missing south London.
Former WBO super middleweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (41-0, 27 KOs), currently a highly ranked light heavyweight contender, will have a lot on the line July 9th against world light heavyweight title challenger Sullivan Barrera (22-3, 14 KOs), including world title fight implications and, ultimately, his boxing legacy,
Eddie Hearn, who works with Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, is not ruling out the possibility of the Mexican superstar making a future return to the light heavyweight division.
Eddie Hearn believes now more than ever that Joshua Buatsi can become a world champion. Buatsi’s promoter also realizes it’s time for Buatsi to start boxing better competition. Hearn expects the light heavyweight contender from London to return to the ring in July against the type of opponent who will prove that the 28-year-old Buatsi is ready to fight for a 175-pound championship.
