Dmitry Bivol: record, next fight and profile →
WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol of Russia is training hard for a scheduled defense in December and is currently preparing with three sparring partners at a training camp in Krasnodar.
Frustrated by Dmitry Bivol’s silence after Team Zurdo and Golden Boy Promotions sent the World Boxing Association (WBA) light heavyweight champion a legitimate contract offer, Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez now has a clear path to his first World title shot in the light heavyweight division.
World Boxing Association (WBA) light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol (18-0, 11 KOs) is still being aggressively pursued by undefeated Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (42-0, 28 KOs), the former World Boxing Organization (WBO) super middleweight world titleholder.
Eddie Hearn can’t envision any scenario in which Caleb Plant will upset Canelo Alvarez on November 6 in Las Vegas. The British promoter accordingly has mapped out a plan for Alvarez’s return to the ring after defeating Plant in their super middleweight title unification fight next month at MGM Grand Garden Arena. Hearn believes Alvarez – with whom his company, Matchroom Boxing, maintains a professional partnership – will want to conquer the light heavyweight division once he becomes the first fully unified 168-pound champion in the history of boxing’s four-belt era.
Undefeated Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (42-0, 28 KOs) believes World Boxing Association (WBA) Super Light Heavyweight Champion Dmitry Bivol (18-0, 11 KOs) is being steered away by Matchroom Boxing’s Eddie Hearn. He feels Hearn is preventing from challenging Bivol in a battle of undefeated, world-class fighters.
Undefeated Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (42-0, 28 KOs) feels he’ll get his first world light heavyweight title shot because he believes in himself, his promoter Golden Boy Promotions, and his Mexican heritage.
Dmitry Bivol could next defend his WBA light heavyweight title against John Ryder after his hopes of facing Saul “Canelo” Alvarez were dashed. The Russian had been put forward as an alternative opponent for Canelo when talks for an undisputed world super-middleweight title fight with Caleb Plant seemed to be going nowhere. But a deal was finally sealed last week for that fight to go ahead in November, leaving Bivol looking for another challenger.
Undefeated Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez (42-0, 28 KOs), the first Mexican boxer to capture the world super middleweight title is hungry to become a light heavyweight champion. “Zurdo” is currently rated No. 2 by the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and No. 5 by the International Boxing Federation (IBF).
Eddy Reynoso, the manager/trainer of Mexican superstar Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez, is hoping to finalize a unification deal with unbeaten Caleb Plant. It was officially revealed on Friday, that Canelo would be pushing back his next ring return.
If Saul “Canelo” Alvarez boxes on September 18, it will be against Dmitry Bivol, a decision that will also have a knock-on impact for Dillian Whyte’s next fight, which will be pushed back from August 28.
