Joseph Parker felt like a sacrificial lamb. He may have strolled to the ring with all of the confidence in the world but few were expecting him to do much against Deontay Wilder.

His skills have never been praised but Wilder has the sort of dynamite in his right hand that can leave his opponents in the medical tent for months. Being stretchered out of the arena was Wilder’s intention for Parker. Once the opening bell rang, he cocked his right hand back and waited for the perfect opening...it never arrived.

For most of their 12-round fight, Wilder’s right hand remained pinned to his side. Derek Chisora, who fought Parker on back-to-back occasions in 2021, got up and gave him a standing ovation when he officially took home a wide decision.

“Joseph Parker boxed beautiful man,” Chisora told Pro Boxing Fans. “He boxed amazing, avoided those big right hands.”

Parker (34-3, 23 KOs) is officially on cloud nine. Several highly-ranked heavyweight contenders have already called him out. While he’s sifting through those offers, Wilder (43-3-1, 42 KOs) has to hit the reset button. The former WBC belt holder looked lethargic, unnerved, and simply not like himself. Still, while he already ruled out retirement, Chisora isn’t buying it.

Wilder is nearly 40 years old and has loads and loads of money. Maybe it’s complacency or maybe it’s eroding skills. Chisora can’t quite put his finger on it. The excuses, however, are neither here nor there. For those who enjoyed watching Wilder knock his opponent's head into the third row, they’ll have to reminisce and think about the good ole days.

As Wilder made his way out of the ring, up the ramp, and back to his locker room, Chisora is convinced that he unofficially retired.

“I don’t think Deontay Wilder wants to fight anymore. I think that was the last time we see Deontay Wilder.”
