Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya is still very interested in making a fight between WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico and Mexican superstar Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

De La Hoya, who promotes Canelo, had tried to make the fight for May 2nd, with both sides unable to reach an agreement on the financial terms. Canelo is now scheduled to fight James Kirkland on the same May date.

If Canelo comes through with Kirkland, then De La Hoya is willing to attempt another round of negotiations with Team Cotto.

Cotto-Canelo is one of the biggest possible fights in boxing.

"It's the kind of fight that the fans want to see, a fight where you do not know who will win and you also know with their styles there will be a lot of emotions. The negotiations with Cotto was one of the toughest, but we know that we can not stray too far - because  it is a logical fight, plus economically it is very attractive," De La Hoya told Erika Montoya.
