Gennady Golovkin boasts the type of two-fisted power to end a fight at any given time. He also boasts the ring smarts to know that he didn’t reach this point alone. A former amateur standout who earned a silver medal for Kazakhstan in the 2004 Athens Olympics, Golovkin made the seamless transition upon turning pro in 2006. He was 18-0 (15KOs) by the time he was in line to fight for an interim title, but still needed that something extra to change his game from a traditional – and somewhat predictable – boxing style to the explosive knockout artist he is today.

The trainer of Gennady Golovkin (33-0, 30 KO's), Abel Sanchez, is preparing his fighter for a middleweight unification bout in two weeks against David Lemieux (34-2, 31 KO's) from Madison Square Garden in New York. Sanchez says Golovkin is preparing for the toughest fight of his career just two weeks out. “We have one more week of training, one more week of sparring, we’d weighed 165 for the 30 day weigh in,” Sanchez told BoxingScene.com. “So we’re going to be ready come two weeks. And if we do what we what we need to do it should be ok. But it’s an explosive fight a fight for the fans and as a fan I would tune in.”

Golden Boy Promotions executive Bernard Hopkins is not only expecting David Lemieux (34-2, 31KOs) to win big on October 17th - he expects him to "win big." Uncharacteristically, Tureano Johnson has been quiet of late on social media. The 31-year-old is preparing for his next fight diligently after stopping Alex Theran back in January. Boxers usually make changes following a defeat but recently the in-form Johnson unveiled a new promoter, new manager and a new trainer to help him for the next phase of his career.
