Danny Garcia: record, next fight and profile →
Adrian Granados has always respected Danny Garcia. That’s why he can’t understand Garcia’s reason for continuing to state Shawn Porter should’ve stopped Granados in their fight nine months ago at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
BoxingScene.com recently caught up with veteran trainer Ruben Guerrero who is best known for training his son Robert Guerrero who was a multi-division champion. Guerrero started his career as a super bantamweight and won his first title at 126 pounds and would go on to win his last title (the WBC interim welterweight title) at 147 pounds.
Danny Garcia has watched Shawn Porter’s last fight numerous times. The former WBC welterweight champion takes more confidence from that footage every time he studies it. He isn’t impressed by Porter’s performance against Adrian Granados, especially since Granados really is a junior welterweight who fought Porter at welterweight for the opportunity and more money.
Former two-division champion Danny Garcia has received the benefit of the doubt in a couple of his fights throughout his championship reign. That string of good fortune came to an end last year when Garcia lost a split decision to Keith Thurman.
On September 8th former champions Danny Garcia (34-1) and Shawn Porter (28-2-1) will square off for the vacant WBC welterweight title. The fight takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY and will be televised by Showtime. The title became vacant when the oft-injured Keith Thurman relinquished the title after being injured again during training for his comeback bout. He still holds the WBA title.
Shawn Porter's father/trainer is very confident ahead of his son's September 8th showdown against Danny Garcia (34-1). The fight takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and will be televised by Showtime. The vacant WBC welterweight title will be at stake.
Mikey Garcia hasn’t just made strides as a ticket-seller. More viewers also tuned in to Garcia’s fight Saturday night than for his previous performance. Ratings released Tuesday by Nielsen Media Research indicated Garcia’s victory over Robert Easter Jr. attracted a peak audience of 725,000 for Showtime on Saturday night.
Danny Garcia isn’t taking Mikey Garcia seriously. As adamant as Mikey Garcia has been about boxing Errol Spence Jr. next, Danny Garcia doesn’t expect Mikey Garcia to follow through and challenge Spence for his IBF welterweight title later this year. Danny Garcia considers all this talk about moving up two weight classes to face Spence nothing more than a promotional ploy by Mikey Garcia to continue building his brand.
Danny "Swift" Garcia (34-1, 20 KOs) and Shawn "Showtime" Porter (28-2-1, 17 KOs) will clash for the vacant WBC welterweight World Boxing Council title on Saturday, September 8, at an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
Danny Garcia gets the feeling Shawn Porter will try to fight different when they meet than how Porter has boxed against other opponents. If Porter approaches him the way Garcia envisions, a manner other than the smothering style Porter typically employs, Garcia believes he can become the first fighter to beat Porter by knockout. Porter has lost only a majority decision to Kell Brook and a unanimous decision to Keith Thurman during his nine-year, 31-bout pro career.
