Shawn Porter's father/trainer is very confident ahead of his son's September 8th showdown against Danny Garcia (34-1).
The fight takes place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York and will be televised by Showtime. The vacant WBC welterweight title will be at stake.
Both fighters last defeats came at the hands of WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman who vacated the WBC title as he tries to comeback from injuries.
Both of their losses to Thurman were narrow but Porter's father Kenny believes that his son is the more versatile fighter.
Speaking metaphorically Porter laughed off comments made recently by Garcia about Porter's penchant for getting cut in his fights.
"Listen man, the kid got a gun on each side. He got one in his waist band and he can go in his sock and pull out a razor and as far as the dumb sh*t that Danny talked about, 'Oh Shawn cuts easy. I'm going to cut him,' Danny - I am going to cut Shawn before he goes to the ring. You ain't got to worry about that. It is already taken care of," Porter told BoxingScene.com.
The Porters have been asking for this particular fight for quite some time now and have been interested in making it happen since Garcia moved up to the welterweight division in 2015. Kenny said that it has been Garcia and his camp that had balked at making the fight happen.
"We have been asking for this fight for more than three years. It is absolutely hilarious that he comes out with something saying you got what you ask for. How long do we gotta wait? I know you guys can remember interviews where he was standing in a doorway of a hotel saying, 'I just moved to 147. Why are they bothering me? Why are they calling my name? I just got here?' What the hell? You are here to fight. You came here so fight someone," Porter explained.
