By Keith Idec - More than anything, Edgar Berlanga believes he needs rounds in 2021. The Brooklyn-based banger felt the same way in 2020, but that was easier said than done. Daniyar Yeleussinov Crushes Julius Indongo in Two Rounds
Daniyar Yeleussinov became the third opponent Friday night to knock out Julius Indongo. If nothing else, he got rid of Indongo in the same round as Regis Prograis knocked him out and a round earlier than Terence Crawford stopped the ex-junior welterweight champion. Yeleussinov dropped Indongo once apiece in the first and second rounds, and referee Christopher Young halted the action after Indongo got up from the second knockdown.
Yeleussinov: My First Time Fighting Former World Champion, This Is My Night
Daniyar Yeleussinov couldn’t even bring himself to laugh at the claim made by his upcoming opponent. As serious as he could express himself, former unified 140-pound titlist Julius Indongo (23-2, 12KOs) insisted that Friday’s clash with Kazakhstan’s Yeleussinov will be “easy work.” The belief—as the 37-year old from Windhoek, Namibia sees it—is that what he’s been able to accomplish as a pro will be enough to prevail in Friday’s chief support battle of welterweight southpaws.
Julius Indongo isn’t impressed with what well-established former amateur standout Daniyar Yeleussinov brings to the table. The former unified 140-pound titlist moves up in weight for a regional welterweight title fight with Kazakhstan’s Yeleussinov (9-0, 5KOs), a two-time Olympian and 2016 Olympic Gold medalist who has emerged as a notable prospect in the pro ranks. The two collide this Friday, live on DAZN from a crowdless Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida, with the winner poised to make some noise in the loaded 147-pound division.
