Danny Roman earned his place in the sport the hard way. The former unified junior featherweight titlist can take tremendous pride in a blue-collar career upon reflection now that he claims to be done with the sport. Roman took to social media with a sudden announcement Monday evening that he was hanging up the gloves, less than three months after his most recent bout.
Devin Haney and George Kambosos Jr. didn’t exactly produce 12 scintillating rounds of action, but they did deliver the viewing audience ESPN executives sought from their lightweight title unification fight.

WBC and WBO 122-pound world champion Stephen Fulton Jr. displayed his full complement of skills and made his case as a top pound-for-pound fighter in a dominant unanimous decision win over former unified champion Danny Roman Saturday night in the main event of action live on Showtime in front of a sold-out crowd at The Armory in Minneapolis in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions.
MINNEAPOLIS – Stephen Fulton fought his way into position Saturday night to pursue the two titles Daniel Roman lost two years ago. Fulton’s boxing ability, intelligence, movement and speed troubled Roman for most of their 12-round, 122-pound title fight at The Armory. The undefeated Fulton got into a rhythm during the early rounds, controlled distance throughout the bout and comfortably beat the former IBF and WBA champion on all three scorecards.
MINNEAPOLIS – Stephen Fulton’s frustration festered Thursday as he sat on a stage and discussed his fight with Daniel Roman. Eventually, an animated Fulton directed his ire toward Daniel Roman’s team, which was seated in the first row at their press conference in a hotel ballroom. Fulton reminded them that he is the undefeated, defending champion entering their 12-round, 122-pound title fight, which will headline Showtime’s live doubleheader Saturday night from The Armory.
Stephen Fulton is the best junior featherweight in boxing. And if it is not him, he is a close second. Fulton has demonstrated his willingness to fight anyone and everyone in his attempt to fight for a world title belt. Now as a world titleholder, and even though he was mandated to do so, Fulton has had no issue facing the best in the division.
The last time Jr. featherweight was this loaded, boxing was gifted several stars that helped carry the sport for the next fifteen years through multiple weight classes.
MINNEAPOLIS – Stephen Fulton would prefer it if his fight against Daniel Roman weren’t about to air at the same time in the United States as the George Kambosos Jr.-Devin Haney bout.
Daniel Roman has a unique understanding of how Brandon Figueroa feels. Roman lost a split decision and two world titles to an undefeated fighter in a 122-pound championship unification bout in January 2020 and didn’t get a rematch. Like Figueroa felt after his loss to Stephen Fulton, Roman believes he did enough to beat Uzbekistan’s Murodjon Akhmadaliev almost 2½ years ago in Miami.
