The president of the World Boxing Council, Mauricio Sulaiman, is hoping to award a special world championship belt to the winner of the highly anticipated middleweight fight between WBC champion Miguel Cotto (44-4, 33KOs) of Puerto Rico and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (45-1-1, 32KOs) of Mexico.
The fight will take place at a catch-weight of 155-pounds with Cotto's world middleweight title at stake. The fight will take place on a date in November in Las Vegas, either at the MGM Grand or the Thomas & Mack Center.
"The fight will be signed and carried out by the title of the World Boxing Council," Sulaiman told ESPN Deportes. "We'll wait for the promoter's request. It would be an excellent [idea to award a special belt] because the fight is very large."
The winner of the match will have to face the WBC mandatory challenger, Gennady "GGG" Golovkin, who also has the WBA/IBO world titles around his waist.
