I am not sure why so much controversy surrounds this situation. He said that he would fight two fighters at SMW but not the guy that is better than both? And let's not play the draw game. De La Hoya was a big draw alone and Floyd was a poor draw with good name recognition. Put them together and the fight was huge. Put these two together in the ring and this fight WILL sale, period! This is a relatively easy fight to sale. Whether you agree with the method or not, the Great White Hype model will push this fight through the stratosphere, especially in the current social climate.
What is he going to do, wait on Cotto? Cotto is NOT fighting GGG for any amount. If Canelo wins, he will not fight Golovkin and he is a big enough star that no alphabet organization will strip him. If the winner of Cotto-Canelo relinquishes his belt, Golovkin gets to fight another bum for the title. If Canelo wins, he possibly fights Golovkin in about 2 years, when he will be pushing 35 years old. If you can't make money where you are, move or stop complaining.

I try to not get caught in the Floyd / anti-floyd debates, but I have to weigh in on class. Class is a SOCIO-ECONOMIC term. Which means your social standing is directly tied to your economic status. The only way to have class in the true meaning of the word is to have a certain amount of money. The meaning has been diluted over time, and now people think of things such as modesty as classy, when in fact it is not. Just because YOU associate something as classy does not change the origin of what the word truly means. If you want to see people as arrogant as Floyd with no manners to others go to any country club in America.
As far as the TBE comments go, any athlete that does not believe that he is the best ever will NEVER reach ATG status. Pac, Marquez, Brady,
kobe, etc. Every athlete can be criticized for past performances, even Floyd. As I said before, it is called SELF-ESTEEM, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Diego Chaves is a top 10 welterweight. Not my personal opinion but Ring Magazine's. Also, the Ghost was a top 10 welterweight going into the Thurman fight. When was the last time Khan fought a guy who was ranked top 10 at welterweight?
For everyone screaming robbery, please post your personal round by round score. Also, if you can see a draw then a one point loss is a definite possibility. This was a very close fight that deserves a rematch, but stop the bs as if either fighter was dominated.
It was an awesome fight by two great fighters. Matthysse has unbelieveable power and was without the better fighter. And Peterson deserves credit for getting up from and fighting back after those punches! Even though the fight was stopped (and rightly so I believe), it still looked like Peterson would have beat the count on that last knockdown.
The video about the gloves is on Fight Hype. Ellerbe said no to the gloves. Floyd came in, and he said no the gloves. Then the comission guy stepped in and he checked the gloves. He said the original gloves WERE NOT APPROVED because of lack of padding. But they had a secondary pair of MX gloves that were approved, but at that point Floyd started flexing and said no anyway. Both sides did wrong, but it is not as huge an issue as it is being portrayed as.

It can also mean the fighter is not liking the counters he is getting hit with so he mutes his own offense to mitigate the damage he is taking. Which means that he may be "hesitant" to go all out because of the threat of punishment that he may receive.

If I'm not mistaken the first pair of gloves had almost no padding and were wrapped in saran wrap. The gloves didn't pass inspection.
I am not sure why this thread has so many responses. The commission and both teams always inspect the gloves before the match anyway.

As far as the fight won't sell, no fight gets ANYONE talking more than this fight, including Cotto - Canelo (this is the reaction where I am, if that is different for your area, oh well). This fight COULD be massive. It fits the Great White Hype (or Hope, whichever movie you prefer) narrative perfectly.
And I believe that most boxing fans would love to see Ward fight both ggg and KOVALEV. I think ggg is a great fighter, but if you want to down Ward to elevate ggg, that must be done in the ring.
There seems to be a lot of people on this site always trashing this fighter or that fighter. There are always fights concerning this guys virtues over that rottrn sob over there. But it almost always boils down to the same thing. Who looks like me.. Broner is ghetto. That's where he grew up. Manny is the same. Where he grew up was worse. Manny has a nicer outward disposition, but looking at his past misdeeds he WAS a lot more similar to Broner than most here care to admit. But he is OLDER now and seems to have grown past those things. Well guess what, Broner is still very young. Hopefully one day he will outgrow his antics. Only time will tell. Because let's be honest, no one who is a saint would choose to beat on people for a living. It takes a certain type of cruelty to be able to knock someone out for a living. So hopefully we can attempt to focus more on the boxers than their antics (unless the thread is particularly about said antics). I have seen enough posts to believe that it can be done.
