Ishe, I would love to see a fight with you and Miguel Cotto. Miguel already beat Alfonso Gomez whom is a fellow "Contender", now that Cotto is in your class at 147 do you see yourself fighting him?
Cotto looks like he is going after Yuri Foreman, which for history I think he should, I would love to fight him, but realistically I know its not going to happen anytime soon. he just blew through Gomez, like easy work, I actually thought Fonzi had a shot.
Ishe, do you think its a good idea for someone like Greg Leon to go from someone who used to just focus on his site, to advising people and then successfully getting embarrassed by fat ass dan rafeal over that pavlik/green situation? Personally, i havent visited ********** in years because it went from being a good place to get interviews and news to a partisan site dedicated to the fighters Leon was "advising", as well as a certain amount of bias towards certain fighters.
Like when Atlas got interviewed by Leon, Leon sounded like an absolute idiot while Teddy was kickin knowledge. In youre opinion, do you think the site has suffered because of this?
I think once he tried to enter the boxing game as a advisor it was tough on him, he still has Allen Green and should make some decent money with him entering the Super 6. But yea I definitely think the website took a hit once he made that move.
Ishe
but how bout manny asking people to go down in weight he did it for morales the whole shit with delahoya he wanted to fight mosley at 142 and cotto around there 2 and ended up fighting cotto at 145 hes demanding all that stuff or his team dont u think its fair that manny taste some of his own medicine?
I think if I was Manny i would have agreed with the testing as long as it stopped 2 weeks beforehand and there was a cutoff to how many test could be taken in that window. I am not him though, so its hard for me to judge him.
Pirog is fighting on february against an unknown opponent before
the macklin bout........
I dont know whats the deal with that fight, good for him if he fights Macklin though
Ishe,
Describe a time when you hired or fired the wrong person, and how has that affected your career?
Horus
Maybe not signing on with a NFL agent that wanted to dab into the boxing management and I never signed with him, sometimes I wish I had did that, or turning down 50k for a fight with Jesse Brinkley at 165lbs. It was more of a pride thing with that, because they were paying him 75k and wanted me to go somewhere I had never fought before, look at it now I should have taken it lol
Dont think Ishe and G.Leon are cool anymore, He isnt advising him anymore from what i heard.
We are very cool, he is focusing more on **********.com and I am focusing on my career, we didnt part on bad terms at all, whether if he likes I am on here or not is another story, honestly i dont think he does either way.
I thought he was at 160, he was supposed to fight Golovkin but got injured. Isn't he now fighting Pirog in an elimination bout? (instead of Macklin vs Pirog)
Your guess is a good as mine lol, I have no idea whats gonna happen to be honest, would love to fight Pirog, but looks like him and Macklin is back on. I actually dont know anything as of right now. I was forced to move to 160lbs because I cant secure fights at 154, and after Vanes got exposed I doubt that my phone rings for that anytime soon. K-9 gets Spinks and Latimore gets Powell again, should be good fights, I am going to go with K-9 and Powell in those fights
Ishe,
Are you a fan of the multiple organizations and belts? Do you like the idea of knowing how the judges are scoring the fights after each round?
I dont care about the belts, I like them because most contracts have higher minimums when become a champion, what does pisses me off is the incompetent judges that have emerged in the sport as of lately, that sucks to be honest.
Ishe, when will we see you rematch Sergio Mora?
I honestly dont believe he will do it unless there is something for him to gain like a title or a eliminator, me on the other hand would do it in a heartbeat
That's great news. Ishe was my personal fav. in the contender series.
Ishe, how do you see the second round of the super six?
Bat, Denmark.
I see Andre Ward and Allen Green as the fight of the second round, I like Andre and he should be able to control the action and out box Allen. Allen has amazing power and that is the only thing that worries me about this fight for him. I think the Super 6 was a great idea, props to Showtime for doing it.
Ishe is it true you and Floyd had a legitimate beef and if so are you guys cool now?
When we were younger, like when I was 18 or 19 we did, but we are cool now, I aint got nothing against him at all.
ishe are u willing to fight manfredo seeing as hes moving down to 160
panda wants to see this fight as u guys had some beef in that house
I doubt that is a fight he would take honestly, would love to make it happen though.
Ishe, why don't you start earlier in fights and throw more punches?
You have the technique, yet you don't punch enough. Do you have stamina problems or is it mental?
I havent had a full training Camp in awhile, even when I fought Wolak it was on short notice. I think its a combination of both Mental and Physical, I am ready to get over that hump in 2010 though. Either it changes or I go do something else
Do you think Shaw or HBO passed up on you as a fill in against Angulo because of your not so fan friendly style or because you would have beaten him? How did it make you feel watching Cintron do it and reep the benefits?
I thought you would have exposed Perro last year. I think HBO knew that as well.
I am Happy for Cintron because he has been around for awhile and he prove a lot of the doubters wrong, so really I was happy for him. Shaw doesn't like me because I left him back in the day, he isnt going to make a fight where he feels his guy may lose, if he really thought he would blast through me as they states, then he would make the fight to see me get knocked out. Thats my opinion
Ishe, I don't see how asking for stricter random drug test is unprecedented in the sport when other fighters and past fighters have done similar things.
With that said, Don't u think boxing needs to have better more up to date standards of testing given that we are living in the steroid era?
how many boxers have been caught using steroids just this year? u got fighters constantly trying to find a edge from loaded gloves to ashtma meds in water bottles.
i really don't think asking for more stringent test to detect PEDs is unprecedent at all when u look at the time we live in.
I see your point..I think we need strict testing, I agree with you, do you think it is in Floyds power to ask for it is the question, I got 40 million reason why he shouldnt have, and I can add another 40 million why Manny should have just taken the test. Definitely can see both sides
Ishe, does the Pacquiao camp keep a couple of 38's around so they can know for sure he's no longer under the effect of the bulletproof meth when he is scheduled a blood test?
LOL :) if he is taking he will be the one having to live with that guilt ya know
Ishe to start off i followed your career through the years and was wondering out of all of your fights who hit you the hardest, and i was also wondering what path your planning to take to get back on the championship level.
Winning, Winning, and more Winning, that solves everything, even though I put up a good fight against Jacobs, in a way that has hurt me, because people expected me to get blown away, me putting up a good fight has caused many 154lb'ers not wanting to fight me. Just staying prayerful and positive
ishe is manny on peds?
I dont know if it is or if he isnt, thats very tough to call to be honest. As easily as we can say just take the test, its just as easy to wonder why would Floyd require a fighter to do something unheard of in the sport of boxing...Egos and Pride killed a very big fight for the sport, but hell May vs. Mosley aint bad either. Should Floyd prevail in that fight, I dont give 50-50 anymore, its 60-40 or 60-40 to the winner of the fight.
Ishe, are you going to be fighting Dmitri Pirog? If so, when and where?
I heard April, now I hear he is fighting Macklin, its a fight I want, hopefully it is done, but if not something else will come up
oh yeah and Rick, also ask him what he thinks of Amir Khan !!
Good fighter, great following, not great yet, but could be on his way. Chin still worries me though.
ishe smith?? i saw u lose on da contender then in the pros, u suck ishe, mosley would get no worthy sparring fromk you other than target practice.
Sure your right, I was also target practice for Fernando Vargas, Pernell Whitaker, Oscar De la Hoya, Shane Mosley (second De La Hoya fight), Vernon Forrest, I have helped them all and was far from target pracrice my fan. Maybe you should learn your facts before you start talking, getting hit is not one of my specialty's. Do you box? I have had a good career thus far, have fought on television a number of time and was on the first season of the contender, I have been pretty damn blessed in my book, so I have no complaints.
Whether Khan deserves all the attention he gets is debatable. However, he is hugely popular in the United Kingdom, and regularly sells out large indoor arenas. If he wasn't a big name and boxing commodity, he wouldn't be fighting on HBO. There is obviously going to be a lot of interest for him, because of his kill or be killed attitude. He has weaknesses, yes, but that is what makes him so exciting. He is one of the quickest boxers in the game, has excellent boxing skills, but is also vulnerable to the jaw. What's not to like? It all makes for exciting matchups, because while he is undoubtedly one of the most talented stars in the sport, if he gets hit he can lose a fight in a second.
Maybe Ishe, if you went to the olympics at seventeen, won a gold medal, and then went on to become a world champion, you wouldn't be a lightly regarded reality t.v figure who felt so unloved and unwanted by the company that welcomed Khan into its open arms.
I agree with you, the only problem I have with Khan is his early knockout, other than that I think he is a good fighter, he still has a lot to prove, but he is on his way. I just think Timmy and other fighters at 140 deserves the publicity more, they have fought some tough fighters and would like to see them get that same love, especially Timmy.
you and i had words cause i said your skills is garbage. your best two jobs are writing columns(what happened on **********) and being somebody sparring partners. also, there's a difference in being a defensive fighter and scared to throw a f**king punch in a boxing match!! don't you think it's kind of cheap to solicit for a job in an article just because you got the audacity to name your SUgarShay and you want to fight a third generation Sugar..lol
Dude I am not going to give you in attention, I have been writing since 2003, just on another website, first it was Mailbags, then it went to QA's, after that I did some videos, then I started with Columns. Once again, if you were half the boxer I was then maybe you would no what it is like, so shut the hell up, whenever your in Vegas come to the gym and we can set up some sparring, other than that, giving a ignorant person attention is not something I am accustomed to. Good job for you though, you scan the forums putting down fighters for what they do, only laying in bed at night wishing you could be them, kudos to you kid! LET ME KNOW HOW MANY CHECKS YOU CASH BY HATING
green - ward is the least intriguing of round 2 still good but i think dirrel l- abraham cause of the styles, and froch- kessler cause of the potential war are getting me more excitied.
I dont know if I like Kessler vs. Froch, that one could be a snoozer. I do like Green vs Ward though, for some reason I think thats going to be a good one
does that not say something about khan. he got ktfo in 1 round and how did he respond, did he go into a shell? did he dissapear? NO, he has come back stronger, got a good trainer, got a title,
the only thing he hasnt got is respect, and he will never get that.
you sound just like carl froch, john murray and other british boxers who hated khan and appeared to be jealous of the attention, money, hype that khan was getting at such a young age.
not even man, i am not jealous of anyone, but would rather see someone like tin bradley getting all this attention
Shay, that was a good read, homie. You are easily one of the best writers around and I like seeing the game from the view of a boxer and not just some crummy old writer all of the time. Also, thanks for coming on the radio show. That was big and you didnt pull punches. Anyone who does that gets mad respect from me. One
Thanks DLT I had a blast on the show! I like debating, but hate when people are ignorant, but realize most are people wishing they could box and be in someone else's shoes
Ishe hates muslim fighters. He hated Ahmed Kaddour on the Contender series and now he is hating on Amir Khan. True story y'all.
LOL that is so stupid I wont even reply, my damn trainer is Muslim dummy, I dont have a problem with anyone serving God or any type of religion.
