Well if this is a reference to Hopkins then I must say that the Calzaghe Hopkins judges definitely rewarded workrate. The thing is Hopkins negated any effort on Calzaghe's part to score effectively. Honetly, I think the best punch that Calzaghe landed of the whole fight was a straight left to Hop's forehead which did nothing. I watched the fight twice to see why they would have given the fight to him. Yeah B-Hop looked older and wasn't doing alot offensively but he was making Calzaghe look bad and he landed the harder cleaner punches.
To all the haters out there. Come on. Give it a rest. We are all human. Open your mind and look at the bigger picture. Do you really want to live in a small world full of ignorance and anger? Are you really happy being like that? One love! and I mean that with all sincerity. You want to talk about keeping it real, well this is real! There are great fighters out there of many different ethnicities. Barerra and Morales are among my favourites and so is Pacquaio not because of where they come from but because of what they represent. Heart, courage, will, skill, power.....they have all contributed to boxing in a big way. No matter what you say you can't take this away from him or his fans. If you look at the recent past it has been a great time to be a Manny Pacuqiao fan. He has proven himself on so many occasions. Fighting the best and moving up in weight and taking on legitimate challenges. I can't think of any other fighter I would rather be a fan of right now. He has consistently had amazing fights and proven himself. Pacquaio has provided us with alot to be happy and excited about. Don't hate because we're happy! All I have to say is thank you Manny for the entertainment and inspiration.
Forgot to give Calzaghe credit. He looked really good against Jones. He dominated the fight. He beat him badly enough that I felt sorry for Jones. His movement, speed and combinations were impressive. Jones is clearly past his prime though. There is no way Calzaghe could stand with his hands down and head in between Jones's gloves, if Jones was in his prime. Overall I have a new respect for Calzaghe. It's too bad that he wasn't able to prove himself earlier in his career, so we could see what he was really made of.
Personally I'd love to see a Calzaghe Hopkins rematch. Hopkins made Calzaghe look really bad in that fight. Having said that Hopins looked tired in the second half. It was an interesting battle of styles. The fact is it wasn't a clear decision. Some people think Calzaghe won and some think Hopkins won (including the BBC). They're both coming off tremendous performances. I know that Calzahge wouldn't want to risk his unbeaten streak and risk looking bad though. It isn't necessarily a wise decision. I'm not saying he would lose but it is a big risk for him. Really what effective punches did he land in the Hopkins fight. He had one straight left that didn't do much. That's all they could show from the highlights of that fight. Would you really guarantee a Calzaghe fight if they fought again? I don't think so, just as I wouldn't guarantee a Hopkins victory.
It seems to me that Joe has a chip on his shoulder. I think that he doesn't truly feel he beat Hopkins. Why would he keep bringing it up? He talks alot of shit about guys that he's not going to face or not willing to fight (Hopkins rematch). If he is so confident why doesn't he accept a rematch and win convincingly, back it up! He is talking about hypothetical situations, he didn't and won't fight Pavlik and the same goes for a rematch with the Executioner. His talk means nothing. I believe that Hopkins beat Calzaghe. He was more efficient and made him look bad. Hopkins did get tired but evne factoring that in he still looked better overall. Hopkins vs Trinidad Hopkins vs Pavlik=two of the most amazing boxing performances I have ever seen. Factor in the age and blows it up to a whole different level.
The hype balloon has been filled up as much as it can get. Time for Floyd to pop it!
Quick question. Who had a more impressive performance against Hatton? Who fought Hatton on his terms? Who has 4 lineal championships? It's strange that people refuse to give props. Open your eyes.
