I agree that It's going to be near impossible for him to pull off a win but as you said, this is a fight with no downside for him. He's going to use what I now call the Malignaggi approach. The difference being that he's not vocal about the obvious disadvantages, which possibly wins him more of the public.
The only hope that I can see is that Marquez does match Mayweather in terms of ring awareness and the ability to alter their strategy during the fight.
Kevin Iole on Twitter says the PPV buys were incredible:
KevinI - "Mayweather's PPV number is astronomical. It may exceed 1 million, but definitely will reach 900k. Should be announced officially Wed or Thur"
He also added:
"No. It's Mayweather. I've heard from some good sources since last Tweet that it may even be as high as 1.6 million"
:luvbed:
I dont think it will get close to a mill.
500K sounds about right!
It's pretty much confirmed. At minimum, according to Kevin Iole who is at Yahoo Sports, the fight pulled in 900k buys.
Katsidis is putting his all into every punch. He's showing some serious power. Escobedo needs to stick to the game plan and keep distance.
Solid right hand by Katsidis. Another couple of those and this will be over.
That was another Katsidis round. He's just pushing Escobedo all over the ring. Escobedo needs to establish a more solid jab. Katsidis is walking through everything that Escobedo has thrown up until now.
Lock looks very sharp. Round 4 opens with with Lock landing that right hand to the body and the head.
Cruz appears to finally be timing him properly. Landing the right as Lock comes in.
Juarez will win this fight if he lets his hands go! He was landing effectively late in their first fight. If he brings the same work rate in the first half of the fight, John is out by KO in the 9th/10th.
HBO saying Katsidis is landing 50%+ of his power punches.
Kellerman just made a comparison to Rocky Marciano... nice Kellerman, showing some Larry Merchant like work there.
I can't believe how small Juarez looks at the weigh in. He looks significantly bigger on fight night. He must hydrate up another 8-10lbs. The difference is pretty staggering.
That's another interesting point. Will fights break out? I guess the only thing keeping things "safe" will be the lack of alcohol but I'm sure a few people will go in there already blasted...
She did a great job with that interview. They sidestepped the question about going head to head with the UFC but it's expected. Why give them any additional mentions in the media? The figures for the fight revenue were pretty surprising. Each one of their "megafights" is bringing in as much if not more than some of the office blockbusters.
Solid work to the body by Lock. Guy is looking sharp. using his jab... throwing combinations to the body. He's being warned by the ref to keep the punches up. He's definitely the aggressor.
